what so bad about socialism

Protectionism is already at work in Germany, Japan and, to some extent, in Israel, and as soon as enough people around the world in Democratic Republics vote for Socialized Welfare programs that their Middle Class cannot sustain, such as the US, people will support a Fair Trade candidate.

obviously ever growing fair trade wars would cause another Smoot Hawley Great Depression which is why even liberals like Obama and Krugman support free trade.

Germany has pretty powerful unions.
If their corporations went as hog wild using foreign labor and importing from China as the US, their level of "Protectionism" would increase in like manner.
For instance, most European nations have minimal H1-Bs whereas the US is inundated.

Huh? What the heck are you talking about? The truth is the complete opposite of what you just said, in both cases.

Germany imports more manufactured goods from China, than anywhere else in the world. The only other country they import more from, would be Norway, and that is ONLY because Norway is their primary source of oil and petroleum products.

They import vehicle parts, motorcycles, cars, bikes, trucks and trailers. They import computers and electronic equipment. They import tires and plastic product, medical supplies, and on and on.

And again, they have lower tariffs in Germany, than we do.

So this idea that they are not outsourcing to China, and they are not importing tons of manufactured goods, you are crazy. You are nuts. Not true, not a fact. They are importing TONS from China. Number one trading partner if you exclude oil sources.

Moreover, Germany is actively trying to attract as many immigrant workers as they can, and are specifically targeting high-skilled labor.

Ms. Torres, 24, said she loved living without fear of the violence that was a daily threat in her hometown, Veracruz, Mexico. And Germany, she said, has done much to make her family feel welcome. Her husband, who spoke German before they arrived, is here on a scholarship program that Germany runs to encourage bright foreigners to study in the country. The program entitles Ms. Torres to learn German at no cost and could yield permission for her family to stay for good.

Look, a Mexican in Germany, specifically because of a program for immigrants to take high-skill jobs.

Do you people just MAKE UP crap, and think none of us will fact jack your lying fifthly posts?

Opinion is one thing... even saying "well I think..." is one thing. But to state the absolute exact opposite of what is true..... cut the crap dude. You are not fooling anyone.

I have conversed with IT people in Germany on Dice.com and they say the NYTs is full of shit.
In term of the New York Slimes, Thomas Freidman will publish anything that makes cheap labor sound good.
In fact, the New York Slimes spent the better part of the 2000s not publishing ANYTHING about inundating the US with a minimal H1-Bs every year.
Let me tell you something, 65,000 visas/year x 14 years IS inundating a nation with cheap labor.
YOU try going into IT now and see how far YOU get.
It's easy to minimize the shit that OTHER people have to deal with.

Even physicians are bitching now that they're being bought out by companies like Pro-Health who fire their US doctors after 2 years.

And yes, there are Neo-Cons in Germany AND Japan who are trying to destroy their Middle Class; I saw thus last year on 60 Minutes.
At least 60 Minutes had the balls to explain that the Neos Cons are trashing a segment of their population to make an extra buck.
Just more greed spreading across the globe.
Wait a few years and they will elect our version of Liberals.

Germany's skilled worker shortage is growing | Germany | DW.COM | 04.06.2012

Here's a German paper reporting on the same program.

German business and industry are glad to see the skilled workers. "Due to Germany's aging population, the country needs some 2 million skilled workers from abroad," said Dieter Hundt, president of the German Employers Association. Workers are especially in demand in the technical sector.

So now what are you going to say?

Some idiot on a forum somewhere: "Yeah I talked to my German IT buddy, and he says all the German papers are crap to. In fact everyone that says anything that doesn't support my made up 'facts', I know a buddy somewhere on the planet that said they were wrong."

Look Indeependent.... Germany has been openly welcoming immigrants for almost a decade. It's a well established fact.

5 Countries That Take the Most Immigrants

Out of all the countries in the entire world...... Germany is number 2, on the list of countries that accept the most immigrants. The US is number 1.

Germany takes more immigrants than any other country in the world, other than us.

You either grow up, and accept that as fact... or you are identifying yourself as too incompetent to debate on this forum.

You can have your opinion about anything, but when you are confronted with absolute undeniable fact, you trying to deny it just makes you ignorant, and childish. Grow up.

I spent over a year listening to Imus in the morning; Imus has Thomas Freidman on at least once a week.
The man is a cheap Labor freak and his paper always touts the "benefits" of massive immigration.
I presume you also believe that Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz and Carly Fiorina are concerned about the Middle Class from their Presidential Candidate speeches when, in fact, they're are both rabidly in favor of Immigration Reform Bill S744.
Believe what you and others experience, don't believe in MNC Publications or what comes out of someone's mouth.

THIS is what people are experiencing...
Dan Rather Reports - No Thanks for Everything...

... nothing, the Right just likes to complain about the equality of also bailing out the least wealthy.

Trillions spent to eliminate poverty....poverty higher than before.
Why would anyone complain about such a huge liberal disaster?
What liberal disaster? Our US form of Socialism is the Best in the World and even provides steak and lobster for the least wealthy. Have some pride in ownership, dear.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Have you ever been outside of the United States?

Yes, I have. Been all through Europe. It's not the US. Not saying Europe is bad.... They are a million times better than India, or some other 3rd world country. But comparing the EU to the US... US. By far.
That would be known as an opinion. Having lived in both, I much prefer Europe., there is no comparison.

Well.... it's not necessarily opinion. Opinion is what you would prefer. Comparing the US to the EU, is not opinion. It's a fact.

People live in much much smaller homes. People can't afford nice cars in the EU. I know... I've been there... I know people who live there right now. You can't afford a car like we can here in the US. Nor can you have the same level of electrical useage. You simply can't afford it.

When we're paying $2.50 for a gallon of gas, they are paying $7 to $10 a gallon. I've been there. The price is insane. It's why they drive tiny little 3-wheeled crap cars.

The UK is the closest to the US in terms of quality of car, but even then... compare the top 5 US vehicles to top 5 UK vehicles.

F-Series Truck
Chevy Silverado
Toyota Camry
Ram Pickup
Toyota Corolla

UK top 10....

Ford Fiesta...?
Vauxhall Corsa??? 3-cyclinder 70 HP. Dude, I've used lawn mowers that had more power than that, literally.
Ford Focus?!?
VW Golf... almost respectable... except it isn't even the same car sold here in America. Want to amuse yourself? Look up the specs at the VW web site for a VW golf in the UK, and compare it to the specs at the VW web site in the US. The US Golf starts off with a 1.8L Engine. 170 HP. From there, you go UP to a 200 HP 4L engine.

The VW Golf in the UK, starts off with a 1.2L 85 HP engine. oooooo... Again, I've driven motorcycles with more power than that. If you really want to bump up the performance, you can get a .... 1.6L Diesel engine maxing out at 110 HP. When I was in high school, I had a Chevy Lumina that had more power than your 'top-of-the-line' VW Golf.

UK's "high performance" car, is worse than our bottom of the line car.

Now again, compared to the rest of the world, the UK is driving luxury cars. Compared to the US... no, not so much. I would not trade my Grand Marquis for any of your tiny midget mobiles. My Grand Marquis is to the average UK citizen, the same as a Bentley is to me. Can't afford it.

And the same is true of many other aspects. For example, I know all about how the vast majority of UK citizens dry their clothes by hanging them on rope... inside their homes. Which again, are a fraction the size of the average US home.

Why do they dry clothes by hanging them on ropes? Because they can't afford to dry them in a drier. The cost of driers is way higher in the UK, but the real killer is the price of electricity which is more than double US prices.

I know this, again, because I've seen it with my eyes, and I have friends that live there now (stationed at military bases but living off base), and they say as much.

Now you may still prefer it, and more power to you, but from an economic perspective, the UK is not up to the standard of living as the US, no matter how you cut it.
I live in Europe and we readily afford all of these things. And the main point is that the quality of living is much higher, and other things such as I do not have to worry about my kids getting shot at school.
As far as cars, you see so many Mercedes and BMWs that it in not funny.

Again, I've been to Europe. I know there are BMWs, but they are crap BMWs. Not the quality BMWs we have here. Same with Mercedes. When I climb into the right hand side, and put my foot on the gas, and it takes off like a slug crawling on jello.... it's not the same. When I look around and see barely enough room for two people, let alone 6 people and a full trunk to put all their luggage in.... it's not the same.

Mecedes is the same as well. Take the E-Class coupe. The entry level E-Class in the UK is £39,310, which is $61K in USD. Comes with a tiny little 4-banger 170 HP engine. In the US, the entry E-Class coupe, is $55K and come with a 329 HP Turbo V-6.

So lower price, better car, here in the US.

By the way, the top is is equally better. UK $77K for a 333 HP V-6, and the UK $60K for a 400 HP V-8.

Less money, better car, here in the US.

You can take any, as in ANY, UK vehicle, and compare it to the US equivalent, and the US car is larger.... faster... bigger... and cheaper... than the UK version.

I haven't met anyone that worries about their kids getting shot at school.

There are 100,000 schools in the US (roughly). How many instances of school shootings have there been in the last 10 years, compared to how many schools there are?

Not exactly huge. You morons claim the right-wing is slave to the media, and then you yourselves watch boob tube, and are convinced now that there is a school shooting every other Friday.

Do we have a crime problem? Yes. But then, so do you.

U.K. Gun Curbs Mean More Violence Yet Fewer Deaths Than in U.S.

You actually have more violence in the UK, than we do in the US.

Not exactly a Utopia vision I wish to embrace. Do we need to change some things to lower homicide rates? Sure. But our people are not willing to do it.

Does that mean the UK is a crime ridden cesspool? No. Again, I have no problem with the UK, none at all. If for some reason I was compelled to live there, I would be more than happy to do so. This isn't a "UK sucks, US awesome" post. Not my point.

UK is a nice place to live. No doubt. I'm just saying from an economic perspective, we have it better. The US is better overall. It just is. Opinion, yeah... maybe you would prefer the UK. Fine. But factually, the US is better.
I do not live in the UK. And as I said, one country being better is an opinion. The only place I would want to live in the US is New York City, and that is not like living in the US.

Europe is wonderful and rich with culture, you are obviously ignorant.

1) France has the per capita income of Arkansas about our poorest state
2) they have no culture. We created them after WW2 as cousins
3) they are depressed and don't reprduce. They are the Old World
4) Without American inventions they would be living in the 1920's
5).We defend them because they are too poor and depressed to do it themselves.
