While I would like to agree, history has demonstrated again and again the willingness of totalitarian governments to mass murder millions of their own people; people they supposedly "needed" to do such menial tasks as grown food and produce steel. Lenin and Stalin were happy to murder whole sectors of their citizenry and imprison hundreds of thousands of others in gulags. Hitler killed millions of professional Jews—engineers, teachers, and many others, who were essential workers. Pol Pot slaughtered close to half the total number of his citizens. I'm sort of at a loss for what the OP proposes as a solution, and frankly even what the "problem" is. Yes, compared to 1787 and even Jacksonian democracy, we are an oligarchy. It is no longer possible to simply pack a wagon, move west, steal land from Indians (intended) and seek to live. But even then, a failure of credit like we saw in 2016 meant starvation on a national scale.
