What's so scary about theocracy?

In many ways theocratic countries are arguably more stable the whole; with lower crime rates and a stronger sense of social cohesion.

Democratic and capitalist countries in which social cohesion breaks down due to individualism taken to the extreme, and morality is abandoned in favor of slavery to the self, likely eventually descend into anarchy; Rome may have fallen to barbarians due to becoming over-saturated with material luxury, leading to mankind giving into it's animal nature and becoming suspectable to subversion by those with more temporal power. And if America's economy collapses due to our overconsumption, we may eventually likewise be conquered and tamed by China or Russia.

While America's founders believed individual freedom from the federal government, they didn't idolize "freedom" just for the sake of "freedom", or unrestricted freedom as the pinnacle of human aspiration. In reality though "freedom" is what the devil and his minions idolize above anything else, as temporal freedom is simply the power to pursue one's lusts and desires for destruction unrestricted, much as the evil Marquis de Sade is known as the "freest spirit" whoever lived, total freedom is nothing more than nihilism and social depravity, from obseity being promoted as a norm, to the consumerism of sex, toward the fetishism of "science and technology" and it's false promises of saving us from our own vices.

Between theocracy and and a state of depravity in which the most base and unrestrained animal instincts being the only "morality" that there is, theocracy seems historically more successful at keeping a nation from consuming itself from within.
A theocracy is a state of depravity: to rule based on fear, ignorance, and hate as dictated by errant religious dogma.

Iran, ISIS, and Israel.

/thread.
Why is that scarier than anarchy?

Even in a theocracy one doesn't have much to fear so long as they comply with the social order; in anarchy one is just another animal in a jungle constantly having to look over one's shoulder out of fear of being harmed.

Women in the West for example are likely more prone to being victims of sexual abuse or exploitation by strangers than they are even in Muslim countries.
Obviously you’re a troll and not a serious poster – no one is truly this stupid.

A theocracy where men beat their swords into plow shares and their spears into pruning hooks. A theocracy where men learn war no more and the Law flows out of Zion.
That would be OK with me.

Look at Iran, Saudi arabia and other backwards shit holes...That is what's scary about it. What built most of our advancements of the past 2,000 years was the exact opposite as these kinds of shit holes oppose free thought and personal freedoms.

Weird to see loserterians come out for something that is anti-personal freedom.

You come close.

Advancements like nuclear bombs, sweatshops, mass pollution?

We'd have been better off without them, and so would the rest of the world. Other than military innovativeness to defend ourselves against other nations we've caused for more destruction than we've ever profited from through material inventiveness.

A theocracy is a bad idea. Sure, let's turn the USA into a Christian theocracy, and then see how fast all the various Christian factions start fighting for who is going to run the country according to their dogma.

It would be like another Iraq, with the Sunni and Shia factions fighting for control, while the terrorist factions try to establish their own Christian state.

Rule by fiat isn't what the founders wanted.

But cultures seem to work best when there is a shared moral order, religion, etc as oppposed to "freedom" and "individuality" being touted as ends unto themselves, this is essentially anarchy and the direction the West is headed; which may therefore give way to totalitarian rule since a group of "individuals" is far weaker than an organized group, even one which rules only by force.

I cant imagine how utterly frightening it would be to live in theocracy ran by nutbags and bible thumpers.

Theocratic states tend to **force** people to accept / participate in their state religion and deny people the right to belong to other religions.

They soon become oppressive, forcing their morals on everyone.

And then .... and then ... comes the demand for more money more money more money.

If you want a theorcratic state I suggest you give up your American citizenship ( so you are no longer protected by the secular government you hate ) and emigrate to Iran or Somalia.

Can we get an example of these stable countries ?
Secular states such as Nazi Germany and Communist Russia are responsible for histories worst genocides rather than states governed by traditional religion.

"Freedom fetishism" likely leads to anarchy, and eventually leads toward secular totalitarianism when people become to weak to govern themselves.
Secular states such as Nazi Germany

you really are delusional aren't you, well you are a christer!

To deny the influence of Christianity on Hitler and its role in World War II, means that you must ignore history and forever bar yourself from understanding the source of German anti-Semitism and how the WWII atrocities occurred.

By using historical evidence of Hitler's and his henchmen's own words, this section aims to show how mixing religion with politics can cause conflicts, not only against religion but against government and its people. This site, in no way, condones Nazism, Neo-Nazism, fascist governments, or anti-Semitism, but instead, warns against them.

Stability isn't the end game for human beings. Freedom is. And the church, mosque, synagogue, or politburo has always worked to subjugate human beings to 'their view of things'.

Sorry, not here not ever. I'm an agnostic and I think people who believe in any god are deluded but I will stand beside them to defend their right to believe. Just as I demand the right to live my life. History is rife with the horrors of the human race being perpetrated by 'religion' on them. Including torture, murder, stoning, drowning, burning at the stake, boiling, impaling...the list is endless.

What religion does is give the believer a 'get out of jail free card' to believe ANYTHING they do is god ordained.

Not here, not ever.

The Nazi party was social Darwinist secularist, Hitler just used the popularity of Christianity to persuade people to follow him.

All forms of government have their downsides; however the way I see the US going seems to be one which will lead to anarchy and eventually secular totalitarianism.

Ideally a "theocracy" would never be needed if everyone did what they should spiritually.

Ironically theocracy I believe is less dangerous because it isn't governed by a single man but by established rules and traditions; while secular regimes can be moulded to fit the whim of whoever is in power.

Exactly what dogma are you going to use for your theocracy? Which values of which religions are you going to respect, and which ones are you going to persecute?

And...................remember...............the Puritans had a theocratic way of living, and look how that turned out for them....................they ended up not understanding what was going on around them (ergot poisoning, similar to an LSD trip), and then persecuted and killed a whole bunch of people because they thought they were in league with the devil.

No. A theocratic society is not the way to go. It keeps the people living in superstition and limits their ability to improve themselves via learning about how the world actually operates.

I disagree. A theocracy is run by one invisible man that speaks to people. Anywhere else the people claiming to hear this man would be locked up in a mental institution.

A theocracy where men beat their swords into plow shares and their spears into pruning hooks. A theocracy where men learn war no more and the Law flows out of Zion.
That would be OK with me.
Wrong.

A theocracy is where men are beaten, arrested, and killed for believing in the ‘wrong’ religion, or otherwise being free from faith.

A theocracy is where endless war is visited upon an ‘enemy’ for no other reason than being of a different religion.

A theocracy is where its citizens are subject to the rule of fear, ignorance, and hate, not the rule of law.

The notion that a theocracy can be in any way ‘beneficial’ is as ignorant as it is ridiculous and wrong.

Has there ever been a place like that?
