Prior to the debate last night the Ds were in bad shape now they are in worse shape. Ignoring the witch hunt investigations and not calling for the impeachment farce to be dropped was stupid. Stupid because Trump's economic numbers are daunting already, especially Black and Latino unemployment numbers. Without a huge downturn in the red/purple states to match or exceed the January to May 2020 blue state downturn the Ds can't win so why is there no appeal to red states just in case?

What do you base your contention that the economy is fixed to tank shortly, OL? You do realize that Trump is getting the numbers he has with eight raises to the Fed rate since he was elected plus having to absorb the fallout from his trade war with China?

Don't forget that 10% of the electorate changes every four years: Older white conservative voters are being replaced by younger minority liberal voters.

In addition, unforeseen events can influence elections. That is why so many people are willing to throw their hats in the ring.

On the other hand, political parties tend to need a catharsis every few elections (e.g., Goldwater, McGovern, Dukakis, etc.) in order to rearrange their priorities. Maybe the Democrats need one in 2020.
