Why did Bush lie about Saddam being connected to 9/11?

It was known, and remains a fact, Saddam was secular, a military dictator. Some of the "Iraqi" leaders before him were also. Also a fact, Iraq was part of the Ottoman Empire, which sided with Germany in WWI. After WWI, ruled by the Crown, then various kingdoms, and military leaders, until Saddam. Iraq itself was carved out by the British. Differing regions have long histories of dissimilar cultures, Now, a powder keg.

So what? What right did Bush have to invade a sovereign country that had nothing to do with 9/11?

At the risk of joining the parade of idiots predicting “the judgement of history” on Iraq, I would anticipate the Saddam-Qaeda connection lie as the most important, far surpassing the more popularized WMD claims.

Sure it was uttered. Bush said it in his 2003 State of the Union Address. He said "Saddam aids and protects terrorist, including members of al Qaeda." Those are his exact words. He said it live in front of the whole world while troops were on the ground fighting al Qaeda in Afghanistan a just before getting permission from congress to invade Iraq.

You are correct. He said Saddam was aiding and protecting members of al Qaeda, the terrorist who where responsible for 9/11. He claimed that Saddam was in collusion with al Qaeda, the enemy we were fighting in Afghanistan and the terrorist who were planning to attack us again. That was the blatant lie. No evidence exist of that connection or collusion. No evidence ever did exist.

He blamed "bad intel"; easily proven, he looked in the mirror. You seem to believe I think the invasion was justified, I did not, and do not. TIME ran a cover story in 2002 I believe, detailing the dismantling of his WMDs, and the breakdown of his nuclear program attempts. Baghdad had electricity only a few days a week; Iraq running a centrifuge was out of the question.

Bush's deadliest failure is documented, ISIS remains a mystery however.

Saddam was pissed, but weapons inspectors were taking care of business. There was no need for the first Iraq invasion - let along the 2nd one from Boy George.

Saddam was no different than several other petty dictators - except Saddam had lots of oil.
