Are you mixing up socialists and communists. I know the USA doesnt really have a left wing and so in american politics the two terms become interchangable but there is actually a world of difference.

Yeah except for the fact that Sweden ISN'T a socialist government (the Swedes don't nationalize their means of production), Sweden has been in the past a high-tax, high government spend country but has retreated from that model over the last decade because it just didn't work financially.

If you want to do an apples to apples comparison of countries with relatively small homogenous populations compare Switzerland with it's decentralized low-tax model to the Scandinavian countries with their more centralized higher tax (although much lower than a decade ago) high spend models and you'll find Switzerland is a far more successful economy.

Of course none of these countries make a sensible model for the United States because we have a large, highly diverse population with established institutions that look nothing like those in Scandinavia or Switzerland.

You know morons trot out Sweden as the model of how socialism works. To be fair on a small scale if you have sufficient natural resources that can be exported for sale....it will work, because someone else is paying the bills, which is a requirement of socialism.

Can it work in someplace as large as the US? Not a chance, the NY area alone has more people than Sweden, of which large numbers are on full public assistance, contributing nothing but their need.

Obviously you don't know what socialism is, the means of production are not nationalized (the key component of socialism) in Sweden any more than the are nationalized in the United States. Having a system of universal health care or high tax rates or public education doesn't make a country socialist.

Obviously you don't know what socialism is, the means of production are not nationalized (the key component of socialism) in Sweden any more than the are nationalized in the United States. Having a system of universal health care or high tax rates or public education doesn't make a country socialist.

Socialism tends to take control of the means of production by by nationalisation by compulsory purchase, communism by government seizing. Sweden's government supports nationalisation, it just has had to set out a roadmap for it beacuse that much money doesn't just appear. Strangely their next door neighbour Norway has quite a bit of nationalised industry yet has a conservative government. That's the joy of European politics, its proper left and right arguing over what is best for each nation rather than the US model of right and far right having partisan squabbles about who was born where and who made a mess of which dress.

Given that in most western countries only 1 in 4 rapes is reported I always wonder if we can believe any one western country is much higher than another based on stats. But in the case of Sweden its so high as to be an absolute disgrace, that is correct.
