Why police departments are being unfunded.

I remember Bubba Clinton promising 100,000 more police on the streets. Times certainly have changed.

Not really. There is still a large support for the huge, overbearing authoritarian government.
Trying to defund police departments is possible the worst way to accomplish what you are trying to do. What will happen as funds are diverted from police work is fewer officers on the streets, less training for the officers still willing to put their lives on the line and less oversight of those officers, all because the funds those things need are gone. What happens? Longer wait times for the police to arrive (if they do at all), less trained officers trying to handle violent situations, more innocent civilians harassed, shot and killed, more crime and less justice. Then, what do you think will be the response of those who have been told they don't need to protect themselves with firearms or weapons of any kind, that they just need to call the police? Answer, the demand for more police presence. The end result, you've shot yourself in the foot and lost the support you might have had. If we want less authoritarian government, then we need more firearms and training for civilians to protect themselves.

Well you could support holding them accountable, but that seems to be beyond the grasp of many.
Many cops already hate the Internal Affairs people looking over their shoulders, second guessing every move they make. Most times, any time they pull a weapon and fire it, they land on a desk job for a few weeks until an investigation is completed. There are thousands, if not millions of cops on the street and a handful cause problems of this sort. Most of them face prosecution and if they ever end up in prison, it's a death sentence. So yes, they need to be held accountable, but reducing the funding that make possible their very existence is not the answer.

Right wingers simply don't want to pay for it, so they blame the Poor and resort to Tax Cut economics.

Hence we are 27 trillion in debt. Since police settlements costs taxpayers 100's of million a year one would think they would want it addressed.
To many lawyers?

Too many people that piss their pants when they see a minority.
People like Jesse Jackson?

"Last year, Anjanette Young filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for the video to show the public what happened to her that day. For the first time, police body camera video reveals what an innocent woman said happened to her nearly two years ago: police officers wrongly entered her home with guns drawn and handcuffed her naked as she watched in horror. -- Hours before the TV version of this report broadcast, the city’s lawyers attempted to stop CBS 2 from airing the video by filing an emergency motion in federal court."

Get over it lady -- you still whining about this 2 years later? Did you die? Nope, so why are you complaining? Yea, the police had the wrong address -- and yes the police failed to do the most basic checks before they executed this no-knock warrant -- like for example, the person they were looking for not only never lived at that address and has no connection whatsoever to this woman -- but this person was already awaiting trial and had on an ankle monitor, so he wasn't hard to find...

But obviously, the worst problem was how angry this woman was and how she kept yelling at the cops and telling them they had the wrong place, being totally disrespectful, but what else do you expect from these uppity blacks....and to make things worse, she is a social worker?? Yuck!
People make mistakes. It is why you can, take it to the judge under our Constitutional form of Government.

What a load of horse shit. You've never been around police I'd bet.

You have no idea the training they have to do, and keep doing to even be in a police department.

They have SOP's they have to follow even if they are in the wrong.

What an idiot you are. Try having NO police and see how long your stupid ass lasts.

Their goal is actually to REPLACE the police......with their own special troops.

The whole "defund" bowel movement is the first step

Hopefully they will be competent unlike what we see here.

Yeah, let's give them a special name too.

GESTAPO has a nice ring to it. How about that?

Or, if that's too German for you how about the NKVD? They were both about the same.

I think what they really want is what they have as cops in south Africa now.

No, they want one federal level police force. Talk about unaccountable. People like this dipshit either want that level of bureaucratic nightmare for their own purposes, or because they are fundamentally stupid.

Odd, I've seen absolutely no one even suggest that. Are you sure you aren't having delusions?

Who has been held accountable for the lies told to obtain the warrant against Breonna Taylor?

Its been nearly two years here. Who has been held accountable?

Possibly. Do you look to him for guidance?

Nope. Not that I'm aware.

The main reason why police departments are being or will be defunded is the states and cities don't have the money to fund them.

The virus has decimated state and local budgets.

The congress won't pass any bills to help fund states and cities to fund their budgets.

So the cities and states have to cut and cut deep. It's not only the police departments. Education and many other public necessities will see huge cuts in the coming months.

As for what the police did to that innocent woman, the police should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, the woman should sue the city police department.

You can't prosecute the officers. They were only doing their job. Yes, she can sue the city, but as the one officer in the video stated, somebody on top screwed up. According to the reporter, the guy they were really after lived in the apartment next door.

Hence we are 27 trillion in debt. Since police settlements costs taxpayers 100's of million a year one would think they would want it addressed.

The police are generally funded by local taxpayers, not the feds. Nor are the feds liable for the actions of police, so our national debt has nothing to do with this.

the biggest defunder of police is the Trump administration and Moscow Mitch, who refuses to fund the Covid relief bill for the States.

These states have been spending themselves in a hole long before Covid. Now the Democrats stuff their pork into a bill that has nothing to do with the virus, and only using the virus as an excuse to get taxpayer money to bailout their liberal cities. The Republicans stated long ago that they will sign a bill if Democrats take their pork out of it, especially the pork that has nothing to do with Covid.

I hate to agree with you but you're right. Yesterday I saw a black guy walking down the street I live on and I called the police and told them. They asked what he was doing and I said he's walking down the street. This cop then tells me that isn't against the law and they can't do anything about that. I said, well he's black. The cop then says, stay in your house and lock your doors, we're on the way! Next thing I know there's three cop cars out there and they got the guy on the ground and one of them has his knee on his neck. My wife is getting donuts for them.

Is this girl really innocent ? I am sure if concerned citizens look hard enough they will find library books that should have been returned.

The entire episode was rooted in racism.

I watched that video over and over, and I seen nothing racist about it. What I did see is yet another irate black guy who like many, resisted authority and was less than cooperative. All the officer asked for was identification. It wasn't his call. The police always call in the people they are in contact with. If they don't, they get in trouble with their supervisor.

I know this guy was a professor, but a Fn really stupid professor. All he had to do is what the officer asked, not fight with him, and everything would have been just fine. But like so many other stupid blacks, instead of taking the easy way, he decided to fight with the officer so he could get arrested.

Ray, everything the leftist scum don't like is racist.
