Why the criticism of Obama's speaking ability?

I have found it curious that so many criticize Obama's speaking ability. Such criticism usually comes down to the mantra that he is lost without his teleprompter.

Presidents will use available technology and support. Teleprompters have been used for years and presidents have had speech writers for many more years. Such aides seem necessary since every word of a presidents speech is scrutinized. It has been a long time since Lincoln pulled the Gettysburg Address out of his pocket.

It is clear to me that Obama studied Ronald Reagan. Reagon was the king of the annecdotal story and using individuals as examples. Obama seems to emulate this technique of speaking about individuals. Obama's speech after the Gifford shooting where he addressed the lives of each victim was a masterpiece.

I would rate Obama as a speaker below Clinton and Reagan, but above both Bush presidents. I can understand criticizing Obama's content, but to trash his speaking ability seems petty.

In my employment I often present as seminars. I only wish that I could present half as well as Obama (no, I do not have the use of a teleprompter, but I do rely on powerpoint).

Teleprompter really isn't a big deal. He has charisma, and the people seem to like that. I personally don't give a shit. I like Presidents for their ability to lead, what they believe in etc. Plus, like Breeze said, he is full of shit

That really doesn't bode well for the Republicans:

OBAMA.....332
ROMULUS.........206

I am well aware of the electoral college results. Does not change the point of what I said. I said the people seem to like that

I don't see the point of this thread. Maybe it's an attempt to fluff Obama.

Seems to me the only thing Obama does well is talk.

Here are three points for the slow of wit:

1) Speaking in and of itself is a skill - content aside

2) Obama's ability to speak has been unduly criticized by those on the right. Such criticism seems more fostered by hatred than fact.

3) A presidency is measured not by the ability to speak, but the ability to lead. However speaking is one component of such.

He is eloquent and says nothing of ANY consequence.

I'm guessing embarrassment (from supporting the Idiot Son) is a factor, as well.....

Well something should work. They've tried the big ear thing, he's from Kenya, the birth certificate, socialist, communist, Michelle, teleprompter the list is endless and nothing seems to have worked, so they are now trying the speech thing. Will it work?

The man cannot speak a simple sentence without an "um", "ah", or some other added sound.

Does it mean that he cannot put together a simple idea without outside help?

Maybe he won re-election because he sounds exactly like all the other millions of graduates from our failed education system.

Yeah....that's the last thing we need....someone who's (actually) THINKING, before he speaks!!!

I'd say that's all probably true. But you know the reason... they can't stand acknowledging that he's smart. They can't stand acknowledging that he's a compelling speaker and that most of the country likes him.

As for Reagan, i understand why people think he was a good speaker. I just had trouble listening to him b/c it was all so much BS. But I will give him the nod for being good at using the bully pulpit.
