Why the USA Keeps Losing Wars.

A very good article dissecting Gates' book where he really makes that point – something missed by the media to date. And yes, it DOES come from Canada Free Press, which does NOT mean anti-American or anything similar. In fact, the author is an American living in New Jersey. For those who can set their prejudice aside, read the commentary @ Why the U.S. Has Been Losing Wars

There is only one reason that we have ‘lost’ any recent war – we have redefined the term ‘win’ to include the wellbeing of the opposing side. By any traditional meaning of the term we won handily in both Iraq and Afghanistan. How could we not, we were facing ‘armies’ that lacked any air power at all and had technology decades behind ours. But then we figured that ‘winning’ also meant that we needed to reinstall successful governments and rebuild the nations. Some of this comes from lessons learned from WWI where we set the stage for WWII by subjugating the German populace. There is a limit though and we have exceeded that when we go into these areas and try to instill OUR government on a people that simply do not want it/are not ready to fight for it.

In short, we are ‘loosing’ wars because we no longer actually fight wars. Instead, we are trying to rebuild other nations in images that are NOT their own – a virtually impossible task when you are killing to achieve it.
