Why Workers in Red States Vote Against Their Economic Self-Interest

Guano misspelled his name when he registered.

Just sayin'.

More than two choices for what? You quoted the opening and rebutted that there are smart people who care about the future, implying that only imbeciles support the notion that red state voters defend economic policies that create so many poor people.

You got something right after all, only imbeciles think the government creates poor people.
In one breath you deny it, in the next you blame Obama for it. Schizo aren't you. Or is it just whatever supports your ideology at the moment?

lol always the same stupidity from the same self-deluding left-wing losers.

the states with the highest unemployment are the Blue states; and the lowest unemployment are mostly Red states
\
Blue states are losing POPULATION AND JOBS TO RED STATES

true story

idiots and hypocrites

how did voting for Dems for decades work out for super-blue Detroit?

idiots n hypocrites

For years, political scientists have wondered why so many poor and working-class citizens of so-called “red” states vote against their economic self-interest.
The wages of production workers have been dropping for 30 years, adjusted for inflation, and their economic security has disappeared. A smaller share of working-age Americans hold jobs today than at any time in more than three decades.
For them, a job is precious — sometimes even more precious than a safe workplace or safe drinking water.
This is especially true in poorer regions of the country like West Virginia and through much of Southern and rural America, where the old working class has been voting Republican. Guns, abortion and race are part of the explanation. But don’t overlook economic anxieties that translate into a willingness to vote for whatever it is that industry wants.
This may explain why Republican officials who have been casting their votes against unions, against expanding Medicaid, against raising the minimum wage, against extended unemployment insurance, and against jobs bills that would put people to work, continue to be elected and re-elected.
They obviously have the support of corporate patrons who want to keep unemployment high and workers insecure because a pliant working class helps their bottom lines.

As someone who has lived in the south for the past half of my life it always puzzled me why people in this region always vote against their self interests and defend the same people who exploit them . I attribute it to a plantation mentality ...

There's a good reason why their educational system is so consistently bad in the red states and why they tend to mock and even look down on people with higher education. Now you know why. It's because a higher education often causes people to question their previously held assumptions which they blindly accepted before. Once that happens, and people start thinking for themselves, they're not likely to just accept simple answers to complex problems anymore and just go away while nodding their heads in agreement like parrots that repeat words without knowing the meanings of those words. Once people start thinking for themselves, they won't settle for meaningless answers like children who nod their heads when their parents make up some story to get them to stop asking questions because they either don't have the answers or they don't want to talk about it anymore.

Where did I blame Obama for poor people?

The way to overcome having to work for low wages is post high school education. Yes there is a concerted effort to keep labor costs low(poor business practice which leads to low quality) but that has always been the case. Of course companies try to take advantage of their employees. Who didn' t know this? This is the system that exists so it is up to one to garner the skills so they can hold them against those that would hire them in the form of money. The path to this is higher and further education. If you have the skills you can find ways to beat the system which is designed against you. Its basic capitalism.

Yep. About all those federally guaranteed student loans guaranteed was a lifetime of debt. No wonder bankers love government.

That is my problem how? They shouldn't have wasted all that time getting a degree in Women's Studies.

Well that's what a liberal arts degree will get you.

IT'S HILARIOUS REALLY; left-wing idiots trying to lecture about voting against their own interests.
the top states for the hightest unemployment are Blue states; and the lowest unemployment is in Red states.

Along with the lowest wages.

And the lowest cost of living. Blue stares may have higher wages, but those are negated by a higher cost of living and higner u employment. Id rahter have the lower wages, lower cost of living and more employment. That way more people are working without govt help and they live a similar quality of life to the bluer states

Only in the Fantasy World of Conservatopia is making less better than making more.

Yes but lower wages means one doesn't put out as much as far as productivity either. More relaxed as it should be. In the north its pressure and go go go.

.

So the only reason to vote for something is so that someone will give you something?

Maybe not everyone thinks that way.

.

That is still something else than voting against your self-interest. Somebody poor who votes Republican is really stupid. Everyone votes in their own interest.
