It is truly a sad state of affairs when one fails to differentiate between a government program designed as a temporary solution to help a small minority get back on their feet becomes a program of subsistence and lifestyle. Teach a man to fish versus giving a man a fish parable...
No one objects to helping those that need help, only those that never grasp the opportunity to get back on their feet and transform federal short term assistance programs into carriers is unacceptable. Where is the pride and sense of accountability?

Define the standard for determining if a political party should be rightly described as socialist, and then everyone can decide whether or not the Democratic Party fits that definition.

Central economic planning, which can only be done by government because only government can use force to compel market participants to do things against their own interest.

That is the opposite of capitalism, which is distributed economic planning. Companies, employes, producers, consumers, all market participants make their own, free decisions.

Full socialism is when government owns industry. But fascism, crony capitalism and other models where industry is technically in private hands but controlled by government are essentially the same and are forms of socialism

I have defined the Democrat Party version of Socialism. No one on the left here at USMB will touch it. Too scared.

Your idea of capitalism is selling out American businesses to south Asia and making shit for pennies. People like you wish to sweep the success of the 1940s through 70s under a rug as it shows the success of social-democracy in making a powerful nation that also makes a large percentage of its people wealthy enough to have a good life.

The same can be said about many western European nation....

It goes from socialist state to pure capitalism.

-Socialist state has the means of production in the hands of the government.
-Pure Capitalism has the means of production in the hands of businesses. Typically as history shows these businesses turn into a few giant monsters that take over the entire economy...Which, seemly don't give a damn about their workers, national health or much else!!!

Of course, what the right seems to miss is the fact that there's a middle ground called social-democracy....This is a place where people can still get rich but is fair to the rest of the country.
