If the CEO of (you fill it in) Corporation was caught screwing his employees, how many nanoseconds until he/she would be fired?

The House Ethics Committee on Thursday announced an investigation into allegations that Del. Michael F.Q. San Nicolas had a sexual relationship with a member of his congressional staff.

It was the second investigation the committee launched in as many days that involved a Democratic member having sex with a staff member, which is prohibited under House ethics rules.

Mr. San Nicolas, a nonvoting Democratic delegate from Guam, is also under investigation by the committee for allegedly converting campaign funds to personal use and accepting improper or excessive campaign contributions, according to the committee.

House Ethics probe targets lawmaker for office affair; second Democrat sex scandal in as many days

I don't get the big deal ...

Huh...sex...its always sex...anyone notice almost every scandal revolves around it? What is it with these congress people?

Only two things can destroy your political career in Washington ... getting caught with a dead girl or a live boy.

Sometimes, not even that ...

They're members of the human race, except they are under the magnifying glass of a fish bowl. If they don't know it, they do after their error gets published at a porn site.

I don't understand why people take these nude pictures of themselves in the first place. Just don't do it at all. You know, unless you're getting paid. In that case, charge through the nose.

With all due respect to an excellent post, fncceo, I've noticed that lately Democrat higher-ups are threatening to unfund any Democrat Representative who dares to vote on any issue Republicans like. I skimmed an article about that yesterday, but I'll try and find it. When I was growing up, I vaguely recollect a history class in which the teacher claimed that when elected to the US House or Senate, people should expect their representative to vote his conscience now and then. I'm not seeing any of that in the polarized congress of 2019.

Edit: Well, it only took a few minutes:

Well at least it wasn't a male page, which Republicans seem to prefer...

There was a time, not that long ago, when politicians, of both parties, were united by the fact that they had a very sweet job that allowed them to feather their nests for the future. Long term politicians ran the show, and junior politicians (who were still naive enough to believe they could make a difference) waited their turn, played the game, in hopes of getting a piece of the taxpayer pie by and by.

The dynamics have changed a bit. Social media allows firebrand junior pols to circumvent the party machine and bring their case directly to their base ... regardless of who that might be.

They are forcing the status quo, politically savvy politicians to take increasingly extreme positions to appease their junior, less politically experienced colleagues.

I can imagine a time when the party machines will become obsolete. To be replaced by crowd funded social media campaigns. In that environment, only the most extreme, vitriolic candidates will survive.

Well, we need to outlaw calumny and the false narrative to avoid that. Unfortunately, that would take a motivated Congress to be elected to fight the present criminality in the House, and the true problem would be implementation in the face of a press that is hostile to fairness.

On the contrary, we want our politicians quietly on the take. When they are motivated by greed, the temptation to tear the nation apart in some cause or other is removed.

Nothing will screw up a country faster than a lunatic with a heartfelt dream who isn't corruptible.
