There are situation in which police lying is illegal. For example, if a person ask if it's legal to smoke pot and the officer says sure go ahead and he then arrested the person, that is considered entrapment and it is illegal. It is also illegal for law enforcement officer to lie under oath.

Actually, it's not just lying to the FBI that is crime, it is illegal to lie to any federal agent conducting a criminal investigation and that includes congress. Also in many states it is illegal for you to lie to police about your identification or other demographics. Lying on many government documents such as tax returns, applications for welfare, Medicaid, Food Stamps, immigration forms, etc.. are illegal.

Honesty is the best policy when speaking to any law enforcement officer, however you are not compelled to say anything which is a good idea if you are suspected of a crime or feel you may be suspected. If you lie to the police and they find out you're lying, it creates suspicion and that suspicion can lead to further investigation.
