There would need to be limitations on that as single payer would be the end result.IF I took 300.00 a month and put it in a HEALTH CARE medical account I could pay for my own damn health care for decades. And a low cost catastrophic policy would cover getting diabetes or other long term issues.. And it would cost a damn site less than the BS democrats forced down our throats.. we could negotiate with docs to get a decent price for services too.. 60% of costs would go away in nothing flat.. but that would leave dems and special interests without money.. not a bad trade off.. IMHO
What they should do is put people with preexisting conditions on Medicare. Let them buy into a Medicare plan like people who are on disability. The plans are very affordable and it would remove all the high risk customers from the insurance rolls which would reduce premiums considerably.
It would solve a lot of problems. I looked into disability. If you are on disability for 2 years or more, you can buy into Medicare. The plans are in the $200.00 a month range depending on what kind of coverage you want.
The biggest cost for insurance companies are people that do have medical problems, especially serious ones. Putting those people on the insurance rolls with limited ability to charge for coverage and of course insurance will be unaffordable for many others.
Insurance is supposed to be for the unexpected things that could happen--not things that will happen only a matter of time.
