GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) -- Running out of money to fight wildfires at the peak of the season, the U.S. Forest Service is diverting $600 million from timber, recreation and other areas to fill the gap.

The nation's top wildfire-fighting agency was down to $50 million after spending $967 million so far this year, Forest Service spokesman Larry Chambers said Wednesday in an email.

Wildfire spending by other federal agencies takes the total to $1.2 billion.

Chambers says the $50 million the Forest Service has left is typically enough to pay for just a few days of fighting fires when the nation is at its top wildfire preparedness level, which went into effect Tuesday.

There are 51 large uncontained fires burning across the nation, making it tough to meet demands for fire crews and equipment.

Guess the GOP will change it's "Let him die" chant for "Burn, baby, burn". And then ask the Forest Service what they spent all their money on.

While Homeland security is busy feeling up LOL's at airports there might be a real sabotage issue in the fires that are consuming the west. Radical leftist arsonists went underground after torching SUV's and industrial sites on the west coast when Obama was elected and apparently Obama's "justice" dept isn't interested in pursuing left wing gangs since Obama was in partnership with former domestic terrorist Bill Ayers.

There just might be a real sabotoge issue with your brain, also. Allmost all of the present uncontained fires, 51 in all, in the West was caused by lightning. And we are getting more right now.

Really, no problem with your brain as far as sabotage goes, cannot sabbotage what is not functional.

Unfortunately a product of governments inability to prioritize coupled with it's astounding ability to spend in the most inefficient way possible. One would hope this imbroglio leads to better planning on the part of the federal geniuses for next year however based on past behavior the prospects remain dim.

One wonders why you felt the need to insert this inane, hyper-partisan hyperbole to what was otherwise an interesting story, sudden attack of Alan Grayson syndrome perhaps?

You mean this isn't about global warming?

Forest management is a big no-no thanks to enviro-nuts. So the shit is left to burn.
And burn it will.

There is no need to fight forest fires.

If people want to live in areas that are prone to fires then that's their choice. They can pay the ridiculous insurance premiums and we can stop sending firefighters to their deaths fighting fires that are a natural phenomenon.

We don't send people in to stop hurricanes do we?

America should be able to help its self...Anyone that wants America to fall apart isn't pro-American...end of story.

Forest fires are a necessary phenomenon.

Much of our native flora has evolved because of fire which is why National Parks like Yellowstone have stopped fighting fires in their borders.

The country will not fall apart if we stop wasting money fighting fires that are a natural phenomenon.

how funny, they have all this money they are dishing out for "NAVIGATORS" for OBAMACARE...but is running out OUR MONEY FOR fighting fires to protect the people and their homes...

what a screwed up administration and we see what their priorities are

screw you little people

:clap2:

Further, forest fires are a beneficial part of the ecosystem.

But hey, we're talking about a federal agency here, which MUST spend more this year than last...just because...:eusa_shifty:

World Tribune — U.S. intel alerted to threat of 'Forest Fire Jihad'

U.S. officials monitoring terrorist web sites have discovered a call for using forest fires as weapons against “crusader” nations, in what may explain some recent wildfires in places like southern California and Greece.

A terrorist website was discovered recently that carried a posting that called for “Forest Jihad.” The posting was listed on the Internet on Nov. 26 and reported in U.S. intelligence channels last week.
The statement, in Arabic, said that “summer has begun so do not forget the Forest Jihad.”

The writer called on all Muslims in the United States, Europe, Russia and Australia to “start forest fires.”
