You can't let them go hungry or you risk increasing more crime for food if they are in the country. Down in Brownville one winter and a guy thought he was going to break into the pickup until he realized there was a two hundred pound dog sleeping in the back seat. The guy pissed himself when the dog woofed. We were close by and on our way back to the pickup as it unfolded. Rod asked him if he was hungry and he said "se". Rod handed him a five and he walked away. a few minutes later as we were driving back to Padre we saw him coming out of a little shop with a large bag of tortillas. That guy was bones covered in skin and I am sure he had a family he wanted to feed. That five was much cheaper than replacing a broken window or the tools that were in the pickup.

The person who can easily afford to give the kid some food but decides not to for some political or emotional reason is the super asshole. We are talking about an example of a half pint of milk, an apple, and a cheese sandwich. That was the example I gave for helping a 5-year-old hungry kid. The response was, no, don't feed the kid, even though it only took chump change to help the kid out. The response indicates some serious mental problem. Hell, we give free food away to my kid's friends when they visit after school sometimes. It is obvious some of them are sometimes hungry and we turn the after school snack into a nutritional and enjoyable meal. The reward of seeing a happy child is well worth it.
