151 years ago today: Democrats founded and staffed the Ku Klux Klan

I thought the Ku Klux Klan was founded by former confederate soldiers... :eusa_think:
I've read something on Internet about that.
The web is not very reliable.... ;)
It was Ester....they were democrats....and democrats embraced the kkk they created, and still do to this day....

They know who they are, to this day they are still embarrassed embracing the party that had them physically in chains..

They remind me of abused women that can never leave their husbands, today instead of physical chains the democrat party enslaves them with free stuff.. Give a dog a bone once in awhile he won't revolt.

What difference does it make? Well it depends which part you're talking about.

No one alive today is responsible for things that happened 150 or 900 years ago.

Of course not. However people have a tendency to look back into the past and take offense at things in the past and make judgements based on the past.
Unless you are a bed wetting liberal then all whites are guilty today of slavery that ended over 150 years ago. They have stated it in no uncertain terms on campuses across this Country and in the Democratic party as well.

Which is not what I said or meant in any way.
Your party says it and liberals across the Country say it all the time.

My party? Which is my party exactly?

The KKK was started by former soldiers of the Confederacy,

which is the single most important reason you see so many conservatives so vigorously defend the display of the Confederate Flag.

Maybe we should ask NY since he is such an historical scholar-----> forget the KKK for a second..........remember when Kennedy had to send in the national guard, remember when all the water cannons were used on black people fighting for their rights? Which political party did virtually ALL of the people doing these transgressions belong to! Oh wait, wait, say it isn't so....you mean the charming, delightful, open minded, all inclusive DEMOCRATS?!?!?!?!?!

And now.........wait for it........we are going to hear all about how Democrats and Republicans switched sides, but this time, we are ready for them! Let us look back and see which politicians in control in the South switched party's-) If they didn't switch party's leftists, it didn't happen, now did it, lol. Be specific! And of course, we will show all the politicians who were in charge of the water cannons, and which political party they belonged to a little further down the road-) Once you delve into individual politicians, your whole phony theory falls apart, and you are laid bare as the party of racism!

Robert E. Lee was a Democrat. The conservative South celebrates his birthday every year.

88% of Mississippi voters voted for the REPUBLICAN candidate Barry Goldwater in 1964. Those were DEMOCRATS switching to the Republican party, at the ballot box,

because Goldwater opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Use your fucking head for once.

The Confederate Flag is a symbol of State Rights, which has little to do with Slavery. It honors all of those who fought for their state rights, and apparently offends all of those who don't understand what the Civil War was about. Lots of good reasons to love the Confederate Flag.

You're mentally retarded. The Civil War was only about slavery. All of the other reasons that are injected into the causes trace their roots back to slavery.

States rights were about the right to keep slavery legal, state by state.

Moron....Berry Goldwater voted for every other Civil Rights act when he was in the Senate....he was an early Civil Rights supporter, long before 1964.......he opposed the 1964 act on Constitutional grounds, not racism....but thanks for lying.....on Christmas weekend no less....

Barry M. Goldwater: The Most Consequential Loser in American Politics

Goldwater treated all people the same. As a private citizen, he flew mercy missions to Navaho reservations, never asking for recognition or accepting payment. He felt that “the red man seemed as much—if not more—a part of Arizona and America as any white or black person.”[20] Moreover, a few weeks after Goldwater was discharged from the Army in November 1945, Democratic Arizona Governor Sidney Preston Osborn asked him to organize the Arizona Air National Guard. One of Goldwater’s first recommendations, soon approved, was to desegregate the unit. Goldwater’s integration of the state’s Air National Guard took place more than two years before President Harry Truman integrated the U.S. armed forces.

Goldwater was an early member of the Arizona chapters of both the NAACP and the National Urban League, even making up the latter’s operating deficit when it was getting started. Later as a Senator, he desegregated the Senate cafeteria in 1953, demanding that his black legislative assistant, Kathrine Maxwell, be served along with every other Senate employee after learning she had been denied service.

In the mid-1970s, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, investigating improper operations of the intelligence community in the United States, proposed that transcripts of the FBI tapes about Martin Luther King Jr.’s alleged indiscretions be published. An outraged Goldwater declared he would not be a party to destroying King’s reputation and strode out of the committee room. A fellow Senator recalled that Goldwater’s protest “injected some common sense into the proceedings,” and the electronic surveillance transcripts were not released.[21]

That his opposition to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was based on constitutional grounds and not political considerations was underscored in the final week of the fall campaign. Speaking in Columbia, South Carolina, Goldwater condemned segregation and declared that government must treat “all men as equal in the arena of law and civil order.”[22] He pledged if elected President to implement all provisions of the act. His forthright pro-civil rights speech was televised on 87 stations throughout the South.

And more on the Civil Rights hero Barry Goldwater, that you left wingers keep lying about....

NPR Wrong on Goldwater '64, Civil Rights, Say 4 Who Were There

As for the Republican nominee's position on the Civil Rights Act, Goldwater had said he would vote for passage if Section II on public accommodations and Section VII on equal employment opportunity were removed. With his view reinforced by a detailed memorandum from Phoenix lawyer and future Chief Justice William Rehnquist, Goldwater felt these sections were unconstitutional, were unenforceable without a federal police force, and would lead to the creation of racial quotas and affirmative action.

"He was absolutely right about [the two sections of the Civil Rights Act] and they did lead to precisely what Goldwater and most conservatives were afraid of," said Tom Winter, then executive editor of Human Events, who would join Ryskind as its co-owner a year later. As for the "extremism in the defense of liberty" speech, Winter recalled watching it from a San Francisco restaurant "and cheering it because it was clearly about freedom and fighting communism. I certainly didn't think it had anything to do with race."

Blacks voted for a democrat who voted against every civil rights act except for 1964....and even voted against anti lynching laws.........because of the Great Society hand outs......

this is the lie that democrats have had to create to hide the racism of the democrat party.......

The democrats are the most racist organisation in the world, today.
indeed by far

You know it! Those Democrats hate negroes and those negroes are so damned stupid that they always vote for them anyway!
What choice do they have?

Yes...but....what have they got to lose?
A lot. There is a lot of poverty in America and the Republicans have a history of being cruel to poor people.

Yeah...keep telling yourself that as the democrat party murdered blacks and republicans to keep their power....

On Dec. 24, 1865, Democrats in the American South formed the Ku Klux Klan as a means of keeing uppity blacks in their place. They attacked the blacks, and any white Republicans who defended or support them, lynching and killing them when possible. Democrat support for, and membership in, the KKK continues to this day, with theDemocrat attacking, insulting, and pillorying blacks who dared to espouse viewpoints the Democrats disagree with.

KKK founded - Dec 24, 1865 - HISTORY.com

151 years ago KKK founded
December 24, 2016

In Pulaski, Tennessee, a group of Confederate veterans convenes to form a secret society that they christen the “Ku Klux Klan.” The KKK rapidly grew from a secret social fraternity to a paramilitary force bent on reversing the federal government’s progressive Reconstruction Era-activities in the South, especially policies that elevated the rights of the local African American population.

The name of the Ku Klux Klan was derived from the Greek word kyklos, meaning “circle,” and the Scottish-Gaelic word “clan,” which was probably chosen for the sake of alliteration. Under a platform of philosophized white racial superiority, the group employed violence as a means of pushing back Reconstruction and its enfranchisement of African Americans. Former Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest was the KKK’s first grand wizard; in 1869, he unsuccessfully tried to disband it after he grew critical of the Klan’s excessive violence.

Most prominent in counties where the races were relatively balanced, the KKK engaged in terrorist raids against African Americans and white Republicans at night, employing intimidation, destruction of property, assault, and murder to achieve its aims and influence upcoming elections. In a few Southern states, Republicans organized militia units to break up the Klan. In 1871, the Ku Klux Act passed Congress, authorizing President Ulysses S. Grant to use military force to suppress the KKK. The Ku Klux Act resulted in nine South Carolina counties being placed under martial law and thousands of arrests.
And 50 years ago the KKK switched to the GOP because blacks started voting Democratic.

Tell us when the KKK rejoins the democratic party

Democrats, who at the time were conservatives, and etc.

You twits want to say it was conservatism that made democrats own slaves...in order to smear modern conservatives with slavery and hide the true racism of the democrats....

The democrat conservatives wanted to conserve the practice of slavery.......they went to war to keep it....

Modern American Conservatives, like the Republicans of the Civil War era wanted to conserve the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights....and the belief that all men are created equal...

So this lie that democrat conservatives wanted to conserve the same thing as Modern conservatives is a lie to hide the actual, and on going, racism of the democrat party.

What the fuck?

Not some 151 years ago, but this year KKK endorsed a Republican nominee and now president elect - race baiting Trump.

So take your "Democrats are for KKK!" and shove up your little-acorn.

After they cashed their checks from Bob Craemer and Scott Foval....democrat activists working for the Democrat National Committee who were caught on video confessing to inciting violence at Trump rallies and engaging in massive voter fraud operations........

So please......sell your snake oil to democrats....the ones who are dumb enough to believe you....

Conservative southerns angry about reconstruction after the civil war. Of course, I don't expect you republicans to understand basic political history.

"At the time of Ulysses S. Grant's election to the presidency, white supremacists were conducting a reign of terror throughout the South. In outright defiance of the Republican-led federal government, Southern Democrats formed organizations that violently intimidated blacks and Republicans who tried to win political power.

The most prominent of these, the Ku Klux Klan, was formed in Pulaski, Tennessee, in 1865. Originally founded as a social club for former Confederate soldiers, the Klan evolved into a terrorist organization. It would be responsible for thousands of deaths, and would help to weaken the political power of Southern blacks and Republicans."

WGBH American Experience . U.S. Grant: Warrior | PBS

Where's your evidence of your assertion that it Conservative Republicans founded the KKK? Or is just another of the Democrats attempts at historical revisionism?

I have shown you mine, now show me yours.

Who suggested Republicans formed the Klan?

There's no evidence of any political activities or affiliations for any of the founders of the KKK. Not in the original version and not in the 1915 one.

Other than they were officers in the Confederate army, and fighting for the democrat south...other than that...of course....but no way to know what political party they would have belonged to since they spent the Civil War fighting against the Republican party..........yeah....that is a hard one to know....

Probably for the same reasons too
