36% have no nest egg- thank god SS is in good shape...26% age 50-64...

That's a typical bit of sophistry that Big Government types like to play.

It goes along the lines of: if someone opposes a government program for which they are forced to pay, they shouldn't get any benefit from it.

It never occurs to you morons that such a person should have the option of opting out of the system in the first place....as a payer and a recipient.
Government is trying to return us to the concept of the company store, with government as the company

yea, i can't see the whole picture yet i won't be reliant on SS to retire. or obamacare, or any hand outs. there are too many like you who drain the system and lead this country into debt.

Like me? Tell me about it, what makes you believe I drain the system?

if they do thats their fault right? either you get off your ass and make your own way or you have the choice to be a slug, remain uneducated, remain poor and let the govenment give you a stipend in your old age. your call. you make of your life what you choose to.

Indeed. I'll note that the supposed Champions of The Poor actually promote policies that keep them sluggish, uneducated, poor, and dependent upon the government.

Sounds to me like the Right should run on the platform of getting rid of Social Security since it is so bad and so Socialist.

There are millions of educated, highly motivated, hard working people who got off their rears and worked hard all their life. And they need their SS to remain retired. I see zero wrong with that. They paid into it so they are entitled to receive it back. To me they are successful.

OK, so is there any reason in particular, besides the obvious ponzi scheme stance, that the program should be made mandatory instead of voluntary?

absoltely they do. why els would this group continue to languish generation after generation? it becomes a lifestyle, all they know. not only is their no incentive to change their is no direction on how to change.

so it is there for them if they opt into it. but at least give people the choice. I would not opt into it given the choice

I think what many are saying is make it optional. you want benefits you pay into it. you want to make a go on your own, opt out.

It's also why a subset of this group is doing everything it can to foment racial grievances and violence in Ferguson. They are like cannibals feeding off people they exploit.

absolutely, people like sharpton feed off of sensational journalism. the martin/zimmerman case was a prime example. this one will be another. when the real facts come out they will not even marginally relate to the initial media barage of misinformation

It is definitely helping the millions of retired folk who worked hard and sacrificed and saved so they could retire. Not to mention it really helps if one gets sick and is paying exorbitant medical bills. Nobody should ever have to declare bankruptcy because of illness. That is not acceptable. Is life not more precious than money?

SS would be gone NOW without Dems to protect it from "privatizing" greedy idiot Pub a-holes. SS may provide only poverty, but that's better than miserable poorhouses and potters fields Pubs want again...Dems also provide food stamps and affordable housing...nothing great but a helluva improvement over Pub bs and hate.

You stupid ass,

It would not be gone and that is the fallacy. Privatizing would have put trust fund money into private accounts (not something I agreed with), but even if that all went away it would pay out at 75% because it is a PAYGO system. So please stop posting your horseshit about pub propaganda....you don't know what you are talking about.

As to the rest, you are just bloviating.

Pie in the sky? SS is here to stay, GREATLY helps those who need it, and no one has any answer to what would replace it, just stupid propaganda about how it's failing. Silly Pub dupes!

There have been plenty of good suggestions on improving things.

You asswipes are too stupid to understand any of them.

And no, that does not include privatization.

Moron.

When you were younger, you believed in something that was not true. That is true with most people. But it seems as you've gotten older you have not been enlightened on the subject.

The "lock box" is empty. Despite the laws, the Federal Government has raped the Social Security Fund. So, it is empty, and being paid for out of deficit spending, borrowing and the printing of fiat money, none of which is smart or sustainable.

Further, the SSA, originally, failed to understand the ebbs and flows of demographics....as the Baby Boomers wane, there are fewer and fewer people to pay into the system. And with fully 47% of the moochers, I mean "citizens" paying into our system, not to mention the politically motivated invasion along our southern border, it is mathematically impossible to sustain the SSA.

Pensions is a different issue, but don't think for a second the Federal Government (the politicos who profit therefrom) are not eyeballing your 401(k).

Con game, you betcha.....

If conservatism is so great then why did the 5-4 supreme court have to give it's blessing on citizens united, meaning unlimited financing of elections? This just guarantees that a liberal won't get elected. Big money will always side with corporate democrats or republicans.

Oh its a ponzi scheme, designed when the average workers mortality rate peaked around 65. To see just how stable Soc Sec is check out the Congressional budget report.
Some say means testing will come into play, then the next step is asset analysis, then its monthly reductions in payout. Only a fool believes Soc Sec payouts are a viable existence.

This "social security won't be there when I retire" has been around since the 80's. If the ceiling were to be raised on amount of payroll taxed, that would be a good fix but what political party won't allow that? A penny tax on automatic computer trades would help also.

People would die in the streets! Is it even possible for people like Wry to use their adult debate tools instead of these logical fallacies? I think not.

People do die in the streets. Now, I didn't write that, but your Straw Man was in fact a real person.

Government is trying to return us to the concept of the company store, with government as the company

I was thinking that the company store was walmart. Poor wages for their workers who then are allowed to get government subsidies. More and more jobs that paid really well were offshored to Red China which makes most of the products walmart sells. The walmart heirs have more money than 42% of American families combined. And of course working class republicans will fight to the death anyone trying to raise taxes on these walmart heirs and heiresses.
