5000 a day So called Deal from Biden

Do you Trust the Senate Immigration bill?

Something that could easily be negotiated in the House but that’s not going to happen because the wingnuts are playing political games and not even willing to talk about it.
Projection after projection after projection. Biden said he would secure the border if the bill was passed, after saying time and time again it was already secured.

You nutjobs will swallow anything.

I was making an analogy. Everyone knows that no policy will completely eliminate illegal immigration, but that doesn't mean that it's acceptable to have a policy that literally authorizes a certain amount of it.
If a policy allows for something then it isn’t illegal

That can be fixed very quickly by cutting various forms of welfare.

You guys have been singing that song since the 1970s.

The guy who got closest to your wet dream was Bill Clinton, and he only could do it because he gave us a pretty awesome economy in the 1990s. Once Bush fucked it all up and White people were on relief, people forgot all about "Welfare Reform".

Forced Welfare reform with Govt shutdowns

Sure. You could make a law that allows a certain amount of killing people, and then it wouldn't be murder.

Again, what's the point of allowing this 5,000 quota? It's kind of hard to call it border security with that in there.

Clinton was able to do a lot of good things with shrinking government because most of his time in office involved a Republican Congress. But I agree that Bush did screw all of that up. Neocons aren't really conservative at all. They're very much statists, and unfortunately, they're trying to retake the party with people like Nikki Haley.

The bill would increase the number of courts and judges dramatically as well as limiting the number of potential asylum claims. Those 5000 are the number of immigrants that can try to apply for asylum. Most would not even get a court hearing , of those that did not many would succeed. But when 5,000 TRY… the border closes for a day or a week.

So no. It doesn’t allow 5,000 I’m per day

So, that leads to a vital question. Where are the people being held when they wait for their court date? If they're let into our country and they know their odds of successfully claiming asylum are low (or even getting a court hearing is), then that kind of incentivizes them to go AWOL.

Why would it be national suicide?

1.8 million a year isn't that big a number, we can easily assimilate that, especially in an economy that has 10 million unfilled jobs at any given time.

I mean, I know YOU would be horrified by more brown people. But that's your issue, man.
Plus the existing million legal immigrants per year. The 1.8 are being given green cards, work permits and a raft of other benefits.

Where are they held now?

There will be far fewer of them since most won’t even get a hearing

Honestly, the only way we're going to stem the tide is to deal with the NGOs that are funding and facilitating the caravans. Both parties should be working towards getting Mexico and other Latin American governments to oust those groups.

What are the specific conditions around this quota?

"The agreement is expected to give the executive branch a new legal authority to effectively suspend asylum in between official ports of entry when migrant crossings surpass certain thresholds. That would affect remote areas in Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas where migrants regularly cross into the U.S. illegally to surrender themselves to overtaxed federal immigration officials who often release them because they don't have the resources to screen everyone for asylum.
The power, which Mr. Biden referred to as an authority to "shut down the border" on Friday, would be mandated after average daily migrant crossings hit 5,000 over seven days, or 8,500 in a single day. It could also be activated on a discretionary basis after average daily crossings surpass 4,000 in a week. There would also be a limit on the number of days each year the president could invoke the authority. "

It is an improvement over the current situation, but then again, the situation is far worse than I think anyone would have anticipated. The argument I'm making is that the asylum claims should be stopped completely with no minimum legally allowed. We've already let in about 8 million illegals over the last few months, so that should be more than enough let in for quite some time.
