A lot of money was spent on develping that group; they were a creation of producers and songwriters and dance instructors and wardrobe specialists, the whole works. Motown was anything but 'spontaneous talent'.

The Peanut Gallery can find a Berry Gordy and Motown bio called Where Did Our Love Go? that is well worth a read for those into music history. The major talents at Motown was the Gordy family and several other producers; few were perfomers like Smokey Robinson, who was also a songwriter, producer, and performer. It took a couple of years to develop the Supremes act, for instance.
