61% of Liberals Favor Socialism

I doubt 10% of Americans could define socialism as something other than "just like communism! Commie Bastards!"

If your number IS even close to being true. It makes it that much more troubling to me, that 61% of democrats view socialism as favorable.

That's a hard figure to swallow for me too. I believe liberals probably would love socialism--but the typical center democrat--no way.

Fortunately--liberals are a minority in this country & are probably going to have much less power after we get these a--holes out of congress & the senate in November.--:lol:

The numbers for both liberals and conservatives polled on that issue I suspect are high. Again, unless 'socialism' is defined, many of our citizens, especially the younger ones educated in our public schools, probably cannot really define 'socialism' and almost certainly have not had a thorough education in socialism's unattractive side. That's why I think so many think Che Guevara was a good guy--they wear his face on their T-shirts--or why so many buy into the delusion that the people of Cuba were better off under Castro than they were without him, etc.

If people know what socialism actually is and its general track record, I think we would see that favorable rating drop waaaaaay down. Maybe all the way down to the 6% who think the stimulus package is actually working.

Capitalism eventually fails because for everyone that wins there are two more who lose.

You are a brain washed idiot. If you want something then just go for it, earn it, make it, or buy it. If you just try, you can achieve more than you know. Everyone who tries in this country lives like kings compared to other countries.

If you grow & store a pantry full of food in a socialist country then it will be taken from you & distributed to your neighbors. Now you are forced to plant more to secure your food supply & your neighbors sit around unconcerned with planting & storing food because they sit waiting for you to harvest & package more food so they can take it from you.

In this country, if you neighbor wants some food he had best plant his own garden or create something you want that he can trade you for your food. Everyone can make & have their own prosperity & no one has to lose. Just because one neighbor worked harder & achieved more does not mean you are worse off just because he has more. You are still better off than you were yesterday & better off than everyone in a socialist country.

The problem we have now are corrupt politicians who conspire with monopolistic banks & corporations to lie, cheat & steel, but just because they are in a particular party, union or group they get a free pass from their members & keep getting re-elected & put back in charge. They do not believe in earning their own way because we allow them to steel our prosperity. It is amazing that the biggest crime in the history of mankind just transpired & not only did these people not go to jail but they were re-elected. So we are begging them to rob us of our prosperity & discourage us from working hard to get ahead because we feel it will just be taken from us.

Really? So noone in the US, Canada, or the EU has a garden and can keep the food they grow?

And while he looks for employment, he receives food stamps and turns to Food not Bombs or the numerous other groups that help feed the destitute. They can go to community food banks to purchase food at reduced prices, as well.

Because it's a socialist nation.

Compare capitalism:

Classic capitalism.... socialism usually includes market regulation to attempt to prevent/punish such things

You are confusing the free market with the crony oligarchy capitalism that we allowed to take over. And no those other countries citizens don't have what we have. They have rationing, trains, busses, & small houses instead of large homes, with everything you want, & large loaded personal cars.

There can be no free market without regulation, for the unregulated market quickly becomes the market of the Bourgeoisie, who prevent the petty bourgeoisie and proletariat from being able to compete openly and fairly in anything resembling a free market. The free market can only exist so long as there is competition. Competition can only exist so long as the petty bourgeoisie and aspiring proletarian have a real chance of competing with the established bourgeoisie and their trusts and conspiracies. Such an ability to compete can only exist so long as the People, through the State, act against the interest of the Bourgeoisie, limiting their ability to dominate and control the market and manipulate and exploit the lower classes. This process is known as regulation, and it is comprised of several major points: the bourgeoisie must be forced to be transparent and open in its dealing [one example is forcing accurate ratings of investments, the failure to do so directly contributed to America's recent economic turmoils]; the petty bourgeoisie and the aspiring proletarian must be given the means to compete in their early endeavors [this oft manifests as tax cuts for small businesses]; the proletariat must be allowed to keep the fruits of his labours or fair compensation [minimum/living wage, tax breaks for the proletariat- known in Republican lexicon as the 'working class']; the proletarian must be ensured his safety at his work [OSHA and the numerous workplace safety laws] and the right to earn a means to improve his condition [see 'right to work' laws]. These are among the basic principles present in an early socialist society, as they manifest in its economic system.

You'll notice that all are also promises made by the Republican party.

First off I am not a republican. I am a libertarian. Second the more power you give someone over your life, the more you're harmed by their corruption. I can chose to help my neighbor & be certain that he received it. If someone in power takes from me, he does not give it all to the neighbor. The more power a leader gets the more corrupt they get. Yes proper regulation is good, but here are the criminals paying powerful socialist to prevented the regulators from regulating. Here is Barney Franks letter to cut funding for OFHEO, the GSE regulator because they blew the whistle on Subprime criminal activity at Fannie Mae. Yet your party voted him & his cronies back into power not mine. Here are your drunk on power Socialist de-regulators in action. Oh contraire. I understand. It's also based on the untrue thought that working harder gets you more. Capitalism would have failed without a combination of socialism at this point.

The free market worked just fine from 1773 to 1904 when Theodore Roosevelt & later Taft in 1911 imposed Communist Socialist control over our lives by imposing Taxes, & the Federal Reserve. This created the Great depression 18 years later. It has also created all the boom bust cycles that enrich the Oligarchs in power by destroying the peasants every cycle. These people position themselves to take maximum advantage making money on the way up & on the way down because they control the boom & bust so they can successfully time the markets. They can't make much money from stable markets or unpredictable cycles.

If you do not use their currency then they can not tax you, or devalue you're savings forcing you to invest with them to prevent asset depreciation & taxation. You are some what free from these assholes except for property taxes.

Again, I have to say....don't knock it if you can't understand it.. It's obvious that you don't.

Well yeah.

I have always operated under the assumption that if I stayed in school and actually educated myself, waited until I could afford them to have kids, stayed away from illegal substances and activities, was willing to work at McJobs to develop a work ethic and references, was willing to start at the bottom somewhere to develop skills and proficiency in a marketable trade, gave an honest day's work for my pay, etc., and made myself valuable to my employer, I had every chance to prosper under capitalism. I probably would be less well rewarded under socialism.

On the other hand if I spent my school years partying, cutting class, goofing off, and just getting by, liked getting stoned or high or playing video games better than studying or working, thought I was too good to work at low paying jobs, when I did work put in just enough effort to keep from getting fired, I probably was not going to prosper a great deal in a capitalist system. And I would probably get by okay in a socialist one.

I guess it is all in one's perspective.

I like the way you put it.

In a more succinct manner from the film 'Monster:'

Lawyer: Can I tell you something? When the beach party is over, you don't get to say. "You know what? Now I think I'd like to have what everybody else has worked their entire life for." It doesn't work that way.
Aileen: Fuck you, man. Yeah, FUCK YOU! YOU DON'T FUCKIN' KNOW ME!
Lawyer: OK, great. That's great. See, now I'm so sorry I didn't hire you before.

It doesn't get much more succinct than that. :)

People, I'm from Russia. I can tell you about socialism. Ask the questions, please.
But, firstly, I want to know, there is democracy in USA or not? If it is, why American TV lie to you?
Sorry for my English. I need a practice.

Taxation existed before standard currencies...

Perhaps a refresher course in world history would do you good...

There is Democracy but the people you vote for are not who they say they are. Yes the corporations own the media & most voters are to stupid & do not know they are lied to when by the media & cast votes for whoever the media picks for them.
