A Clear Indication That Liberalism Is Heading For A Fall

6. The Atlantic identifies the extremes as “the woke and the resentful.”

It would be a great mistake to see the entire nation as breaking down into these two groups.
Here is the surprising reality:

“…most Americans don’t fit into either of these camps. They also share more common ground than the daily fights on social media might suggest—including a general aversion to PC culture.”

Most Americans share a general aversion to PC culture.!!!!!

I wrote this:
Before I recount his results, consider this: if most people agree with political correctness…Liberalism is in the ascendancy.
But.....what if the opposite is the case, and folks are fed up with the demands to 'just shut up'....?

If most Americans are not the cowards that Liberalism requires them to be.....

.....it doesn't bode well for the future of the Democrats/Liberals/Progressives.

God Bless America.

1.The great first Republican President famously said You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.

A careful analysis of the times seems to indicate that that quote can be enlarged to society, as well: you can intimidate the people into silence for a time….but then truth bubbles out.

So it is with the hallmark of Liberalism…. political correctness.’

2.What is ‘political correctness’?

Why….it is the very antithesis of free speech, hence, a preferred weapon of the Left.

And, in order to subscribe to it, sorry to say, one must be a coward, at least to the degree that one lives in fear of offending someone else in preference to expressing truth.

The Atlantic magazine puts it this way:

“…by “political correctness.” In the extended interviews and focus groups, participants made clear that they were concerned about their day-to-day ability to express themselves: They worry that a lack of familiarity with a topic, or an unthinking word choice, could lead to serious social sanctions for them. But since the survey question did not define political correctness for respondents, we cannot be sure what, exactly, the 80 percent of Americans who regard it as a problem have in mind.” Large Majorities Dislike Political Correctness - The Atlantic

3. My definition of political correctness is along the lines of these two:

Theodore Dalrymple:
Political correctness is communist propaganda writ small. In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, nor to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better.

When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity.

To assent to obvious lies is to co-operate with evil, and in some small way to become evil oneself. One’s standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed.

Karl Marx himself has stated that “The meaning of peace is the absence of opposition to socialism,” a sentiment that corresponds almost exactly to the Islamic idea that “peace” means the absence of opposition to Islamic rule. Cultural Marxism — aka Political Correctness — and Islam share the same totalitarian outlook and instinctively agree in their opposition to free discussion, and in the idea that freedom of speech must be curtailed when it is “offensive” to certain groups.

7. I generally compare the Far Left to real Americans, as there is no Far Right in this nation, but the Liberal Atlantic magazine identifies the extremes as “the woke and the resentful.”

The resentful as “ people who are predominantly old and almost exclusively white.”

The woke as the “young, likely to be female, and predominantly black, brown, or Asian (though white “allies” do their dutiful part).”

Together, the two extremes combined, make up less than a third of the population!

But “…two-thirds of Americans who don’t belong to either extreme constitute an “exhausted majority.” Their members “share a sense of fatigue with our polarized national conversation, a willingness to be flexible in their political viewpoints, and a lack of voice in the national conversation.”

Most members of the “exhausted majority,” and then some, dislike political correctness.

Among the general population, a full 80 percent believe that “political correctness is a problem in our country.”

Even young people are uncomfortable with it, including 74 percent ages 24 to 29, and 79 percent under age 24. On this particular issue, the woke are in a clear minority across all ages.” Large Majorities Dislike Political Correctness - The Atlantic

Apparently, liberalism isn't going anywhere.

" Indeed, while 80 percent of Americans believe that political correctness has become a problem in the country, even more, 82 percent, believe that hate speech is also a problem.

It turns out that while progressive activists tend to think that only hate speech is a problem, and devoted conservatives tend to think that only political correctness is a problem, a clear majority of all Americans holds a more nuanced point of view: They abhor racism. But they don’t think that the way we now practice political correctness represents a promising way to overcome racial injustice."

8. Where must Liberalism look for their support???

“Youth isn’t a good proxy for support of political correctness—and it turns out race isn’t, either.

Whites are ever so slightly less likely than average to believe that political correctness is a problem in the country: 79 percent of them share this sentiment. Instead, it is Asians (82 percent), Hispanics (87percent), and American Indians (88 percent) who are most likely to oppose political correctness.

African Americans are most likely to support political correctness. But the difference between them and other groups is much smaller than generally supposed: Three quarters of African Americans oppose political correctness. This means that they are only four percentage points less likely than whites, and only five percentage points less likely than the average, to believe that political correctness is a problem.” Large Majorities Dislike Political Correctness - The Atlantic

9. To realize how significant this is for Democrats/Liberals, remember that without the black vote, Democrats would never win another national election.

Yet….we learn that 75% of blacks find the concept of eschewing truth and avoiding offending at all costs.

Doesn’t bode well for Democrats/Liberals.

One can only hope....

...and the sooner the better.

I dunno, I tend to think the left started their fall when they couldn't figure out which bathroom to use. But that's just me... :)

10. As to the issue of political correctness, neither extreme represents the majority of Americans.

In fact, their combined numbers are less than a third of the populace.....most folks have businesses to run, mortgages to pay, shopping to do.

Even so, the feeling of most people toward the political correctness culture isn't ambivalent......

...it is negative.

Americans aren't the sort of apparatchiks that are necessary for a Soviet style society, simply shutting up and taking it, quaking in their boots....and this isn't a good sign for Liberals, Progressives, Democrats.....it's the reason the polls have edged toward the Republicans as a result of the disgusting attacks on Kavanaugh.

And, the sort of aggression we have seen from the Left's activists, the sort of thing we say from an earlier iteration of the Left.

Here’s a quote from Richard Evans’ magisterial work on the rise of the Nazis, The Coming Of The Third Reich, considering the treatment of Social Democrat Reichstag deputy Otto Buchwitz in Silesia:

Brownshirts occupied the seats at his meetings, shouted insults at him, and on one occasion fired a shot at him, causing mass panic amongst his listeners and leading to a brawl in which more shots were fired by both stormtroopers and Reichsbanner men. Several Nazis and Social Democrats had to be taken to hospital, and not a single table or chair in the hall was left intact.

After this, gangs of eight to ten Nazi stormtroopers harassed Buchwitz outside his house when he left for work in the morning, twenty or more crowded round him when he came back to his office after lunch, and between one and two hundred hassled him on the way home, singing a specially composed song with the words "When the revolvers are shot, Buchwitz’ll cop the lot!" Nazi demonstrations always halted outside his house, chanting "Death to Buchwitz!" Maxine Waters' Harassment Policy Is About To Make The United States A Hell Of A Lot Worse

I say that the public's reaction to political correctness is a sort of political assay as to the future of the Democrats/Liberals.
A Clear Indication That Liberalism Is Heading For A Fall.

Soooo…..who does support this divisive ideology???

11. If it’s not race or age….where is the greatest divide on support for ‘political correctness’???

Income and level of education.

“While 83 percent of respondents who make less than $50,000 dislike political correctness, just 70 percent of those who make more than $100,000 are skeptical about it.

And while 87 percent who have never attended college think that political correctness has grown to be a problem, only 66 percent of those with a postgraduate degree share that sentiment.” Op. Cit.

As Dennis Prager has observed, the longer one stays in college, the less wise one is.

“Progressive activists are the only group that strongly backs political correctness: Only 30 percent see it as a problem.”
You know, the nuts who scream at the sky.

A Clear Indication That the Democrat Party is on the wane, and Liberalism Is Heading For A Fall.

12. To get an idea of how conflicted Americans are on the concept of ‘political correctness,’ check this out:

“… while 80 percent of Americans believe that political correctness has become a problem in the country, even more, 82 percent, believe that hate speech is also a problem.

Progressive activists are the only group that strongly backs political correctness: Only 30 percent see it as a problem.

…progressive activists are much more likely to be rich, highly educated—and white. They are nearly twice as likely as the average to make more than $100,000 a year. They are nearly three times as likely to have a postgraduate degree. And while 12 percent of the overall sample in the study is African American, only 3 percent of progressive activists are.

I don’t doubt the sincerity of the affluent and highly educated people who call others out if they use “problematic” terms or perpetrate an act of “cultural appropriation.” But what the vast majority of Americans seem to see…is not so much genuine concern for social justice as the preening display of cultural superiority.

…contemporary callout culture merely looks like an excuse to mock the values or ignorance of others…”

Little Jack Horner
Sat in the corner,
Eating a Christmas pie;
He put in his thumb,
And pulled out a plum,
And said, "What a good boy am I!"

Liberals......so superior that they can ram their views down everybody else's throat.

13. What is the result of the enforcement of ‘political correctness’?

It is a cautionary warning for Liberals....stop the bullying.

“…contemporary callout culture merely looks like an excuse to mock the values or ignorance of others…

The gap between the progressive perception and the reality of public views on this issue could do damage to the institutions that the woke elite collectively run. A publication whose editors think they represent the views of a majority of Americans when they actually speak to a small minority of the country may eventually see its influence wane and its readership decline.

In a democracy, it is difficult to win fellow citizens over to your own side, or to build public support to remedy injustices that remain all too real, when you fundamentally misunderstand how they see the world.”
Large Majorities Dislike Political Correctness - The Atlantic

And, the Liberal obsession with political correctness is an existential danger to the nation:

“The result? Students who develop a suffocating sense of superiority, who pass judgment on authors as racist, sexist, capitalist, imperialist or homophobic before even reading their works. Political correctness is not designed to produce students who think for themselves, but, rather, cadres of self-absorbed reactionaries ready to take their orders from ‘the movement.’” Pearcey, "Saving Leonardo," chapter eight.
