A revealing incident involving Larry Hogan.

Some might be.

But some wouldn't, figuring that if Hogan was elected, he'd just switch parties like Specter did, and he would not be a reliable vote for President Trump's choices next year (or a reliable vote against Sleepy Joe, if Biden were to win).

As far as investing in a race, the GOP campaign fund would be better off trying to flip West Virginia.

WV is a solid red state and Manchin is a good example of a moderate who goes against the party line on many issues.

Best bet for Republicans is to support the Republicans in both W Virginia and Maryland.

But then Lara Trump leads the RNC and has stated her primary support will go to paying her father in laws legal bills instead of supporting local races

What's the point of the GOP spending beaucoup bucks in Maryland to elect someone who has really little chance of winning as he doesn't have many campaign funds as is far behind- and if Hogan were elected, he'd really not be very loyal to President Trump in getting Trump's agenda passed next year? Doesn't sound like a good investment for limited resources.

Just before the verdict in Donald Trump's hush-money trial came out, Larry Hogan released a statement defending the U.S. legal system and urging Americans to accept the result. Trump's campaign saw his plea — and did not like it.

Chris LaCivita, a senior adviser to the former president, tweeted at Hogan, a former two-term governor who is running for Senate: "You just ended your campaign."

Hogan, a prominent Trump critic, is running for an open Senate seat in the blue state of Maryland against Democrat Angela Alsobrooks. Though he has said he will caucus with the GOP, he has shifted to the center since winning the Republican nomination.

“Regardless of the result, I urge all Americans to respect the verdict and the legal process,” he posted on X, formerly Twitter. “… We must reaffirm what has made this nation great: the rule of law.”

Exactly what about that statement would cause a Trump advisor to imply Hogan's campaign for a Senate seat is over? I suggest there is nothing other than a lack of fealty to the toxic message coming from Trumpworld that the legal system is corrupt by definition if Trump is found guilty.

There are reasonable positions one could take in questioning the propriety of the trial. The relative novelty of the charges being one. But those observations are absent in the repetitive, dogmatic way Don's congressional defenders have lined up to parrot the party line. Relentlessly bashing the justice system. A system that afforded Don opportunities to defend himself every step of the way, including testifying in his own defense. Because as Larry Hogan has discovered, you jeopardize your political career in this POT if your total fidelity to him is seen as wanting.
I figured he was a shoo-in for the senate. He seems independently minded, not a racist, and I respect that. But maybe Maga will sink him and let the dems hold the seat.

Why should people accept the verdict when our legal system allows a person the right to appeal? Do you think we should do away with this right?

That is not what he is saying.

The right to appeal is a vital part of our system, nobody is saying it should not exist.

They are saying do not attack the system just because you do not like the verdict.

Let it play out,

and if Hogan were elected, he'd really not be very loyal to President Trump in getting Trump's agenda passed next year? Doesn't sound like a good investment for limited resources.

A Senator should not be loyal to a president. A Senator should be loyal to the Constitution and their state.

This idea that all our elected officials must be loyal to the POTUS is one of the reasons we are crashing as a country.

Hogan is extremely popular in Maryland

He has little respect for Trump but can support Trump policies without supporting Trump

When Americans accept verdicts in show trials, then Democracy is truly dead.

Hogan can easily win.
A hard-Core Conservative cannot win Maryland.
Facts.

I think what little chance the POT has of restoring itself comes down to the rank and file Repubs. Congressional Repubs would not be cowed in to this despicable behavior if they didn't fear their own constituents. Constituents like the Repub nitwits on this board.

Rank and file voters don't participate in your fantasy of any of this being despicable behavior

Unless you mean behavior by the Democrats.

That's not how the cult works. You have to be completely give yourself to Trump or you're deemed unworthy.

How weak must the MD gop be to allow that POS to run for the Senate? I hope he loses because he will be like Collins or that bitch from AK.

He's literally the only Republican who is capable of winning that seat. This is the problem with you guys. You'd rather have a Democrat who will give you nothing as opposed to a Republicans in a heavily blue state will give you 50 to 60% of what you want and this is why you lose over and over again and rarely see your agenda passed.

we even let them call this a "hush money trial" when it was really fraud and racketeering. coverage of this trial and verdict has been pretty submissive to this con man.
Yeah. That denial of his fifth amendment and 14th due process rights was very gentle.
