Just ask Japanese Americans in 1942. They were rounded up and sent to camps because white people were terrified their cousins were going to show up off the West Coast. Take the Branch Davidians... When the government found out they were stockpiling guns and molesting their kids, it didn't matter that they believed those things were sanctioned by God, the government stepped in.

For most of our history, guns were actually regulated. The gunfight at the OK Corral happened because the Clanton Gang refused to follow the gun laws and turn in their guns when they came into town. Actually, as someone else pointed out, it's the opposite. Mexico is flooded with guns that are bought in Texas.
