Trump has spent almost nothing on his campaign and yet he is in a commanding lead for the GOP nomination. How he has gotten there is by stating things that most Americans feel or believe is true but stating this in a way that is copacetic with his supporters and potential supporters while driving the college educated Media crazy.
Early on Trump talks about the illegal immigration problems and he says that much of them were rapists and other criminals, and he is right, but he KNEW that the P:C Nazis in the media would go ape shit crazy over him saying it without preceding it with multiple apologies and exceptions.
This provocation of the Media gives Trump FREE ADVERTISING TIME. It gets his message out to his potential voters like nothing else does and he doesnt have to pay them for it.
Part of the problem is that Americans have grown extremely cynical about the Professional Political Class. They see these candidates gearing up to run with millions in donations from lobbyists for multinational corporations and they smell a stink, the stink of being bought and owned by the Corporate Crony Network.
When most every day Americans see a well polished and rehearsed candidate, they see someone who has spent millions on coaches and media reps and that means they owe someone for those funds. Today 'Polish' = 'bought' in the minds of most people.
So when Trump is asked about some terrorist by name his supporters see Trumps awkwardness as a sign of his being his own man and not having the benefit of millions in campaign donations and that means he is honest. Trumps gaffe's are like, when buying a used car, seeing 'honest dirt', meaning that the owner did not clean the car up to hide mechanical problems like leaks or blown coolant hoses.
In the case of this 'thousands and thousands' of Muslims celebrating in New Jersey, Trump stated it the way he did, using hyperbole, in order to antagonize the media and political establishments into a frenzy of Trump bashing, which also creates sympathy for Trump as a great many of the voters tend to see that as the establishment being mad at Trump for threatening the racket they run that screws over average Americans so they can reap huge profits from the federal system of funding, aka 'pork'.
People are sick of it, sick of it to the point of buying a Trump with all his flaws instead of perfect candidates that are owned by shadowy entities lurking in the edges of the political system.
