Albert Einstein is the world-famous physicist. This article was originally published in the first issue of Monthly Review (May 1949). It was subsequently published in May 1998 to commemorate the first issue of MR‘s fiftieth year.

"Is it advisable for one who is not an expert on economic and social issues to express views on the subject of socialism? I believe for a number of reasons that it is."

Why Socialism?

"The economic anarchy of capitalist society as it exists today is, in my opinion, the real source of the evil. We see before us a huge community of producers the members of which are unceasingly striving to deprive each other of the fruits of their collective labor—not by force, but on the whole in faithful compliance with legally established rules. In this respect, it is important to realize that the means of production—that is to say, the entire productive capacity that is needed for producing consumer goods as well as additional capital goods—may legally be, and for the most part are, the private property of individuals."

You mean capitalism? I'm pretty sure that Detroit is located in the U.S. and the U.S. is a capitalistic society.

If he wanted to see modern day example of socialism, there are plenty of actual examples of socialism to point to. Successful ones even.

Einstein was wrong about almost everything else, why not about politics and economics as well? :dunno:

At least we cleared up that silly assertion that Socialism somehow killed Detroit.

Are you a Jew hating fucktwat that thinks they try to undermine society? Yet you quote Einstein, I though antisemitic fucktwats like you live by the theory that Einstein plagiarized and stole his work from some good NAZI scientist? Can't you stay consistent scumbag. But I digress.

Anyways, Einstein was a great scientist that doesn't mean he would be a great economist! Maybe great minds were (are) duped by the crafted used car sales pushing cradle to the grave government oversight. He penned this in 1949, the USSR was in it's infancy stage. USSR (and North Korea vs South Korea also) was the picture perfect controlled experiment we needed on socialism. See they had nearly complete socialism under the communist rule. We had capitalism under the democratic rule. We both became super-powers. One of us became the greatest economy the world has ever seen and one collapse within the same century of it's inception.

Socialism has been proven as a failed policy - Examples: USSR, North Korea vs South Korea, Cambodia, Cuba, Venezuela and YES China (China didn't start becoming the powerhouse they are today until they opened up to private enterprise, private property, foreign investment and YES capitalism)!

50 years after he penned that, the painful proof of socialism's abject failure is so evident only a fool or a liar would deny it and Einstein's last sentence is the underlying strength of our economic system. America's capitalism isn't perfect but ...
