“It’s a definitely an escalation from what we’ve seen in previous years, and that’s noteworthy because ALEC has come under a lot of criticism for its anti-environmental positions,” said Aliya Haq, climate change special projects director at the National Resources Defense Council, a D.C.-based environmental group. “What’s interesting is that ALEC has doubled down on its anti-environmental agenda.”

In the last two years, Google, Yahoo, Yelp, Microsoft, Visa, Merck, General Motors, Walgreen’s, Walmart, Amazon, Proctor Gamble, McDonald’s, Kraft and Coca-Cola have all decided not to renew their membership with the organization. Some of those departures are linked to ALEC’s sponsorship of “Stand Your Ground” gun laws, which came into national prominence after the killing of unarmed Florida teen Trayvon Martin in 2012.

This is part and parcel of the attempted by the left (including leftist lawmakers) to intimidate business and corporate donors to ALEC.

All of these corporations and many others have been targeted by left wing groups who were able, illegally, to find out who these supporters were, ostensibly, by gaining access to Internal Revenue Service tax returns filed by ALEC, a 501(c)3 organization.
Senator DickDurban sent a letter to some 300 ALEC business contributors - whom he had no legal way of discovering that they were donors to ALEC - asking if they supported ALEC’s position on “Stand Your Ground” law.

That letter to ALEC supporters came in advance of his promised Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing on “stand your ground” laws he held in September.

Senator TedCruz said in a letter defending the group: "Senator Durbin's request for ALEC supporters to announce an official position on gun laws in advance of a Senate Judiciary Subcommittee hearing is inappropriate," Mr.Cruz called it "an inappropriate governmental intrusion into the personal and political views of American citizens and businesses. In light of the current IRS targeting scandal, this action raises concerns about retaliation against those who may disagree with the Chairman and the Obama Administration."

An ALEC letter to its members sent out on Friday August 8th (2014) noted that "Members and donors to 501(c)3 organizations are specifically protected by the Internal Revenue Service and the Supreme Court to shield them from the type of political intimidation found in Senator Durbin's letter."

Among other things, ALEC's board is investigating how Mr.Durbin obtained a list of the group's undisclosed donors and whether the Internal Revenue Service played a role.

The abuse of the IRS to target, intimidate and harm by stalling and persecuting T-Party groups attempting to organize did not stop there, nor were those inside the IRS intimidated by the fact that they were acting illegally as exposed by hearings in the house. Hopefully when the Senate is restored to the adults in January there will be an actual investigation into IRS activities and Durban's collusion with the same miscreants as Lois Lerner's emails are finally open to review..

Most Americans look at EPA regulations as a zero sum game........they have no clue about the necessary tradeoffs that nobody in government tells them about.

This is not a partisan thing AT ALL. Bush and Obama both fucked America over with clusterfuck numbers of regulations in the past 15 years.

The other AGW crusaders KNOW the EPA regulations have nothing to do with the environment. EPA regulations are devastating to small business and manufacturing and cause peoples quality of lives, and in many cases, careers to be fucked permanently.

But these AGW people are looking out to all of us..............clearly far more compassionate.

Of course, anybody with half a brain realizes this cost will be passed on to the consumer raising the price significantly.........and for who........the people trying to save $$ on energy costs!!
