Almost half of Americans work in low paid jobs

Shows how hollow the Trump economy is

Almost half of Americans work in low-wage jobs

America's unemployment rate is at a half-century low, but it also has a job-quality problem that affects nearly half the population, with a study finding 44% of U.S. workers are employed in low-wage jobs that pay median annual wages of $18,000.

Contrary to popular opinion, these workers aren't teenagers or young adults just starting their careers,

Yes, so what are State Governments doing to help their workforce to become more productive in life?

What are State Governments doing to help entrepreneurs to gain loans to start small businesses?

Forget Federal and it is the State and Local Governments job to bring their society out of this issue.
Seems like a chicken or the egg problem

Are workers low wage because they don’t have the skills for higher wages or are they low wage because they have no advancement opportunities?

As I stated, they are low wage because they don't want to quit the drugs, do physical work, or work anything past 40 hours a week.

1) 16 to 18 bucks an hour is low pay. Not middle class. Middle class requires 25 an hour minimum.
2). If your truck driving company is having trouble finding drivers it's a bad place to work. People are avoiding it for better places.
3) The job market is full of qualified workers who are willing to work until severe exhaustion. They are easy to find.

The job market is full of qualified workers willing to work until severe exhaustion? Sure, but they don't speak English...

If you pay more you always get more productive workers. Pay equals productivity. No way I'd ever work for something like $18 hour. Comparable to nothing.

The quality of employers is going down as well. A growing percentage should be avoided.

And your point is? That's right, you never HAVE a point. Go take a nap, you old fart.

I can't believe we're getting a lecture on work ethic from a guy who uses the idiot Ralph Norton the sewer worker for an avatar.

At least Trump is an accomplished rich man, and President of the United States.

Ralph Norton was a good for nothing sewer worker and an imaginary character at that.

During the time, those apartments featured were places many people lived. They were tiny places with just a few rooms. Do most people live like that today? I don't think so. Norton was a sewer worker and Ralph drove a bus. Obviously, neither of them were doing well financially.

I'm retired. Did my time in the god awful godforsaken rat race. Been collecting social security for over 20 years now. I surely don't owe anyone thanks except for myself.

All your avatars suck compared to mine.

Lower wage jobs are low wage because the employer is not looking for a good quality person. They ideally want high turnover and less productive people.

Yep, they're all looking for less productive employees. Hell, they might as well put up a sign that says "Liberals wanted"...dumbass.

That doesn't make any sense. How can any business stay open with low production and a high employee turnover?

Lots of businesses have high turnover. Productivity is always linked to pay. Want someone to show up pay $10. Want someone to work hard pay $25. That's econ 101.

There's no chicken or egg problem.

Yo, Rightwinger, still waiting for your intelligent, responsible answer. No guts, no glory!

What is the average household income where one worker earns the minimum wage?

Maybe all the progressives can get together here on a conference call, put their heads together and figure out the right answer!

not because of any tax cuts but because of the high school drop out rate. These people are not qualified for high paying jobs.

  1. Every year, over 1.2 million students drop out of high school in the United States alone. That’s a student every 26 seconds – or 7,000 a day.[1]
  2. About 25% of high school freshmen fail to graduate from high school on time.[2]
  3. The U.S., which had some of the highest graduation rates of any developed country, now ranks 22nd out of 27 developed countries.[3]
  4. The dropout rate has fallen 3% from 1990 to 2010 (12.1% to 7.4%).[4]
  5. The percentage of graduating Latino students has significantly increased. In 2010, 71.4% received their diploma vs. 61.4% in 2006. However, Asian-American and white students are still far more likely to graduate than Latino & African-American students.[5]
  6. A high school dropout will earn $200,000 less than a high school graduate over his lifetime. And almost a million dollars less than a college graduate.[6]
  7. In 2010, 38 states had higher graduation rates. Vermont had the highest rate, with 91.4% graduating. And Nevada had the lowest with 57.8% of students graduating.[7]
  8. Almost 2,000 high schools across the U.S. graduate less than 60% of their students.[8]
  9. These “dropout factories” account for over 50% of the students who leave school every year.[9]
  10. 1 in 6 students attend a dropout factory. 1 in 3 minority students (32%) attend a dropout factory, compared to 8% of white students.[10]

Interesting.

One question.

Is that higher, lower, or about the same as previous presidents?
Higher. inequality and upward Mobility just keeps getting worse and worse because of GOP tax rates, a giveaway to the rich and a screw job for everyone else. only brainwashed ignoramuses make this possible. 4 30 years now. Because of reconciliation and filibuster rules written by the GOP oh, it take 60 votes for reform but only 51 to cut taxes on the rich and services for everyone else. Great job.

So it's Trump's fault they don't have enough ambition to better themselves?

Wahhhh!
Yes yes, super duper, everyone just magically got lazy. Has nothing to do with lack of opportunity and ridiculously high-priced education and training. No sacrifice is too great to save the rich from paying taxes -and Giant corporations. Thanks GOP and silly dupes.
