Amazon cancels plans to build headquarters in New York

What taxpayer money? Amazon would have simply gotten a tax break without NY taxpayers paying anymore or less. In fact, NY taxpayers would have gotten a tax break, too, since not only would 25, 000 more people been paying taxes, but all the local businesses would also have been paying more taxes. The loss of Amazon represents a net loss for NY, and clearly shows that crazies like Ocasio-Cortez have no interest in helping anyone but themselves.

Huh? If you're a nobody business NYC is giving tax incentives, 10 years if not mistaken. You don't feel Amazon got an amazing deal?
It was a great deal for both Amazon and NY. Amazon got great tax breaks and NY got not only tens of thousands of new jobs, but increased tax revenues from all the people who work there and from the local businesses.

Really!? Who the hell do you feel paid for it?
Paid for what? All Amazon got was tax breaks.

The agreement comes with a number of incentives: Specifically, Amazon will receive $897 million from the city’s Relocation and Employment Assistance Program (REAP) and $386 million from the Industrial & Commercial Abatement Program (ICAP). It will receive an additional $505 million in a capital grant and $1.2 billion in “Excelsior” credits if its job creation goals are met. That brings the total amount of public funds granted to $2.988 billion—in other words, the city and state will pay Amazon $48,000 per job.

Amazon could also earn even more tax breaks separate from the city and state subsidies.

Amazon’s HQ2 deal with New York, explained
Ok, I should have looked into it more closely before posting, but I still think NY is worse off for losing Amazon. What you are pointing out is that Amazon is getting grants from organizations that have been set up to give grants to businesses that locate to NY, so if Amazon didn't get the money, NY would be looking for some one else to give it to. The real question is, is NY paying out more than it can expect to get back from Amazon being there? Take the initial costs and amortize them over the expected period of operations, say 40 years, and compare that to the anticipated tax revenues from all these employees as well as from businesses that will serve the company and its employees, and if the anticipated tax revenues exceed the initial costs, it is a good deal for NY even without considering the humanitarian benefits of putting another 25, 000 people to work.

Amazon was being exempted from $3 billion of taxes as part of the deal. Minimum wage workers would not be able to make that up. Each of them would have to pay $12 million in taxes for New York to come out even.

Imbecile.

Huh? Make what up? You sound like AOC

Hard to believe that the Demon-crats have now stood directly in the path of the future, and with a huge stop sign in their hands.

Amazon pays pretty well....I have a friend that went to work for them...he started at 32,000 a year with full benefits...now he makes nearly 150,000 per year...
The minimum wage workers for Amazon are seasonal employees...most of them are semi retired folks....but even they get top quality health insurance and paid holidays and sick pay...and after the busy season is over they get a sizable bonus....This is NY's loss....
25,000 employees would have to pay an average of $12 million in STATE taxes EACH in order to cancel out the $3 billion tax exemption given to Amazon by New York.

How long will it take for your "friend" to pay $12 million in state income taxes?

This is what I mean about shallow thinking^^^^^ you completely leave out all of the jobs that follow Amazon...Trucking...shipping...selling...buying...construction...maintenance......etc etc etc ...short sighted.....

None of which would have applied to this situation. Amazon was going to be opening a new HQ campus. Pretty much all existing office jobs, just transferred to the new location. They would have simply relocated current employees. At most, the local job might have seen a handful of new jobs for the janitors. But even then, those likely wouldn't be Amazon jobs, as they would probably hire a cleaning service that mostly staffs illegal aliens who are paid below minimum wage under the table.

Democratic Socialists: Killing the jobs that normal Democrats won't kill.

Wait...is there even such a thing as a "normal Democrat"?

I think the normal Dim only wants jobs if it involves killing a fetus.

Then they can become are rich as they want and it's all good.

/—-/ And you also say fuck you to the 25,000 lost jobs who would be paying income tax, property tax and sales tax - you imbecile

Another shallow thinker that knows nothing about business and what is needed for such a venture....NY blew it and anyone that claims otherwise are not thinking.....

I see the faggots couldn't handle having their bullshit drowned in the truth so they have to do that laughing face thing in hopes that nobody will notice they got their asses handed to them.

Well, I understand. Can't imagine NY not skimming something off the top. Unfortunately that money would need to come from somewhere. Not clear on whether they would just kick the can down the road or if taxpayers would get a huge thank you letter from NY.

Ocasio-Cortez takes a victory lap after Amazon scraps plans to build in New York

She just chased Amazon out of New York with some 25,000 jobs along with it.

Nice going.

Venezuel......er.......um.......New York has a bright future.
It was a shit deal in the first place.

Blind squirrel finds an acorn.
/——/ democRATs spent decades screeching We need to create good high paying tech jobs... but not for New York.
And not subsidized. Winners should not be subsidized, yet there is Amazon collecting huge tax payer funded benefits from all areas of its business.

/——/ So we should subsidize losers? Maybe NY could offer Sears a billion to open a few new stores in Queens. What da ya think?

After all what is $3 billion in TAX BREAKS when they were going to produce 25,000 NEW GOOD PAYING JOBS, with all the tax revenue and assorted peripheral jobs accompanied to that move.....NY, A town full of and run by idiots!

Amazon said Thursday it will not move forward with plans to build a headquarters in New York after rising opposition from local politicians.

The company said it will not reopen the search process "at this time. We will proceed as planned in Northern Virginia and Nashville, and we will continue to hire and grow across our 17 corporate offices and tech hubs in the U.S. and Canada."

Proper vales had JUMPED bease oF AMaxon coming, as oF tO'Day the vales areally 6% lowe then before the original announcement...New Yorkers ...got to lover the leftist mentality!.

It would be silly to blame the pullout on AOC's criticism, but the public will undoubtedly single her out for criticism.

Finally, the World is starting to right itself.

Valentine's Day 2019.

Remember all the things that happen today which will help to correct the bizarro direction our society has been going.

Hallelujah!

God Bless America.

MAGA

uh...HELLOOO???
Amazon specifically singled her out and a few others in the state senate stating they have no desire to operate in such politically hostile environment.
Both officials and Amazon previously quoted as saying it will happen within a year. That was before she was elected, and she rallyed state senators to fight against them with numerous and unreasonable demands, and PUBLIC statements by AOC calling them "demons" and "evil"
Despite the fact the average job wage was $150,000 and higher.

So the state of New York makes a deal and then reneges on the deal. Good for them, now someone else will get the second headquarters, help put people to work and make money off Amazon and their workers.

The democrat Party is lead by a genuine fucking moron! Awesome!

Oh she doesn't lead it but she sure is an embarrassment for it to deal with.

Pelousy should stick her in the broom closet and leave her there before she embarrasses not only the Dems but the Reps who have to listen to her insanity.

Woman is a dingbat.

/----/ According to Amazon - there will be no other location. The HQ is dead in the water. Unless of course, this is all a big head fake to squeeze more concessions from NY or the Fed. Not that I'm accusing Bezos of being manipulative or anything.

Renowned dumbass Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted out that "we" (New Yorkers) scored a great victory by denying
the world's richest man his plan to bring thousands of good paying jobs to New York and build up the tax base there. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez celebrates Amazon move to scrap New York headquarters

Yeah!! You sure showed that dick-flashing billionaire Jeff Bezos. You can bet he won't try that again. Great victory, AOC.
Your Green New Deal is indeed well anticipated due to thinking like that!

The left, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory

Fckn morons

Amazon will end up somewhere in the U.S.A. And yes, one city will end up benefiting. If every single city in America told Amazon to go F themselves, they will not give tax breaks as an incentive. Amazon would still build a new headquarters somewhere in America, the difference would be that America would be, in this case, $2,000,000,000 richer instead of Amazon.
Amazon should be bending over for you, the shopper, instead of the other way around.

new yuk, one of the most corrupt city and state in America, maybe the world. The democrats are nothing but haters and racists. i saw them do the sane thing with a small mall in bronx, they wanted living wages, so the developer said bye-bye. then they had a strike at the stella doro cookie factory, after a few weeks stella doro said bye-bye and closed down. nobody wants to work there, they all want to collect government "paychecks", almost everyone there has snap cards, its unbelievable. ruined by democrats and corrupt racists.
When the wages suck they`ll still get govt. paychecks. Most food stamp recipients do have incomes. Why should taxpayers subsidize the employees of the world`s richest human being?

Since they are not going to consider another place, makes me wonder if this has anything to do with his divorce at all.
It might. But the VA and TN projects are supposedly going forward so maybe it’s a middle finger to NY?

Whatever city Amazon now chooses for it HQ instead of NY will get back much more over time than it will give up to draw Amazon there. NY is net loser here, and the politicians who destroyed this project have not served the interests of the people they represent. This is not about ideology, it is about real people with real lives who would have benefited from Amazon moving there.
