The debt is going up because of interest on money already spent. We can't change that without paying off that debt. The only way get more money to pay those bills off is to reduce the deficit, which we have done. Obama has cut the deficit in half.

By one estimate, 70% of the costs of wars in Iraq and Afghanistan between 2003 and 2008 were funded with supplemental or emergency appropriations approved outside the Pentagon's annual budget.
