American Manhunt - The Boston Marathon Bombing

This is a 3 part, 3 hour doc. that is well done and quite interesting. I watched the first episode and went on watched the next 2 in succession. It breaks down like this:

1) The bombing itself and the hunt for who did it.
2) Suspects identified, the manhunt begins. A look at the suspects and where they came from (Dagestan).
3) The carjacking, the pursuit, and the shootout.

This is the prefect example of too many cops arriving on the scene and having zero fire discipline. It is amazing no one in their homes were injured or killed by the hundreds of rounds police were letting off, many homes had rounds going thru their interior walls. When a media outlet said it was going to go public with the suspects images, the police were forced to reveal them to the public and yet got no information on them. They interview the Chinese guy who got his new Mercedes carjacked, with him inside, and he helped immensely. The guy had his GPS tracking number memorized and gave it to the police. They then were able to track the vehicle to Watertown.

Very good documentary

Very good police work in going through thousands of hours of video and picking out the two guys who did it.

The shootout was ridiculous with police officers shooting at random and allowing the one bomber to get back in his car and drive away. All those cops and nobody covered the car?

They shut down the city of Boston and do a house to house search but are unable to find the bomber hiding in a boat in somebody’s back yard only a block away from where the Mercedes was abandoned.
Dogs, helicopters with infrared cameras, House to house search and they didn’t notice a boat with blood all over it?

Then, after surrounding the boat, rather than wait it out and force the kid surrender…….they shoot the hell out of the boat and surrounding houses

The cover had blood on it, how do you miss that? A block away, too? There really needed to be an after action review on both the search and the shootout. Didn't know his death penalty was overturned, and then reinstated. He will be getting the needle in the future, but he will sit in Supermax for a while first.
