What is a suck ass policy? One that has a high deductible? Unless you are really sick, it makes sense to go with a high deductible plan. I have cirrhosis of the liver, but even with that, my out of pocket costs are only around $2000 per year. My plan costs $375 per month, so I'm covered if things should go bad. It used to be that the only health insurance plan you could purchase privately was major medical. Everything else you paid out of pocket. A big reason healthcare insurance costs have gone through the roof is that they tried to cover everything.

I agree with you that high-deductible plans make the most sense. But now they cost as much as low-deductible plans did before. That's the problem.
