Armed Citizens Make Fewer Mistakes Than Police. Police shoot innocent people over 550% more often than armed civilians do. Civilians are there when the crime or altercation began & know who the bad guy is. Police have no clue when they finally arrive on scene & end up shooting the wrong person. Police often live on the edge, they naturally tend to shoot first and ask questions later. The Supreme Court has ruled consistently that the police are not required to protect you.

Let's just include the 80,000,000 gun owning citizens. Now the police are down to only a 1200 times higher accidental shooting rate than the gun-owning population in general.

That still sounds high. So let's look at it in a different light. According to a study by Newsweek magazine, only 2% of civilian shootings involve an innocent person being shot (not killed). The error rate for police is 11%. What this means is that you are more than 5 times more likely to be accidentally shot by a policeman than by an armed citizen. But, when you consider that citizens shoot and kill at least twice as many criminals as do police every year, it means that, per capita, you are more than 11 times more likely to be accidentally shot by a policeman than by an armed citizen. That is as low as I can get that number.

The Kleck study shows that police shoot and kill around 600 criminals each year. Yet the University of Chicago study shows that police killed 330 innocent individuals in 1993. That means that for every two criminals killed by police, one innocent citizen is killed by police. Although I have the greatest respect for the police and how they must respond under pressure, I think that I would much rather trust an armed populace."

Makes sense. Most citizens shoot criminals that have broken into their homes or are threatening or attacking them. They are quite certain they are shooting the bad guy. Police show up on scenes without knowing what has transpired and might have to guess who the bad guy is. Of course, some innocent people have been shot simply because they do not follow orders from police and start to put their hands in their pocket or some other stupid thing that may be taken as a threat.

Of course, the left wants us all to believe that police are all the protection we need. Only politicians and wealthy celebrities deserve armed guards, doncha know.

Actually according to the research by the CDC at the "request" of Obama there are 1.5 to 3 million times each year that private citizens use their legal guns to stop or prevent crimes.
That is 4110 to 8219 times each day that guns, in the hands of citizens, are used in self defense.

Statistically the private gun own is a much better shot than the average police officer.

The private gun owner goes to the firing range once every other month on average, with many going at least twice a month. The police officer goes twice a year for qualifications.

Most police departments do not supply practice ammo or require their officers to practice on at least a monthly basis, with the exception of their "Swat" teams.

I'll tell ya a little story... my parents used to own a nice little place out of town, had almost 17 acres in one spot, neighbor was a relative and had 5, and deer would cross the highway out front all the time, and inevitably, one would get smacked once and awhile. On one such occasion the local "Chief of Police" showed up after being called to dispatch a deer that was still alive after being hit. He showed up and we walked him back through the woods to near where the deer was at. The deer was still limping through the woods but was easily approached. The cop drew his pistol and starting firing. He EMPTIED the clip in his 9mm, and as he was RELOADING, the deer just laid down, NOT HIT, just laid down. After the cop got his pistol RELOADED, he, myself and another person walked right up on the deer. I told the cop to put the poor animal out of it's misery, so he instead of just standing there, he drew his pistol out again and POINT BLANK, and ARMS STRETCHED OUT as though he was talking a 100 YARD SHOT, SHOT RIGHT OVER THE DEER'S HEAD INTO THE DIRT. I laughed out loud. I said "if that's the best you can do, I'm walking over to the house and getting my .45, and I'll finish it." He was finally able to put the next round where it belonged, but as he walked away I joked to him, "now I know who I want on duty when I rob the bank," ...

Cops... pfft... talk about the old west and shoot 'em up... we have every reason to be leery of cops and their guns.
