The Astonishing Concentration of High-Income Earners Around Washington, D.C.

Six of the top-ten richest counties are in Virginia and Maryland, and 13 of the top-30 richest counties form a continuous circle around the nation's capital.

I am one who likes to tout the idea that a government of the people, for the people, and by the people is not a democracy, as is a common misconception, but rather a government that is comprised of the people. That is, a government not comprised of an inherited aristocracy but of a natural aristocracy or of commoners.

But when on occasion we send freshmen to Congress, are they not heirs to fortunes? And do incumbents not keep amassing these fortunes? This is absolutely un-American. Servants are not supposed to fare better than their employers.

This is tyranny. Subjugation is what democracy gets us.

Republicanism is the reason I'm a Republican, and it used to be the reason other Republicans were Republicans. Whatever happened to principle?
