In my own experience, I left Massachusetts for South Carolina ten years ago, and then ultimately to Nevada, because of the high cost of living in the Boston area. Many of my friends are gone too. When I lived in South Carolina and worked in Charlotte just about everybody in my office was from a state up north: Pennsylvania, New York, Michigan, etc. who left because it was more affordable in Charlotte and there were better job prospects.

You mean North Carolina? Yes Charlotte was intentionally designed to appeal to progressive youth. My sister worked there for a while and loved it. Of course, Charlotte, like almost all other cities and places of GDP production, is a bastion of liberal policies. Liberals may be leaving their states to go produce elsewhere, but they'll be bringing their ethics, morals, and ambitions with them.
