Baltimore TV Anchor Fired For Asking Question

The Baltimore Sun has video of Bubala's question and professor Whitehead's answer in an opinion piece titled: The reaction to Mary Bubala's question on WJZ says more about us than the question does about her. (Link)

In the piece it asks,

What if WJZ anchorwoman Mary Bubala had posed the question like this: “Some in Baltimore have raised concerns that there will be a backlash against black women running for office, given that Baltimore’s last three mayors were black women, two of them resigned and the other declined to run for a second term amid intense criticism. How would you respond?”
Very good editorial opinion from a newspaper I'm familiar with occasionally on-line. It concluded that the station, "responded out of fear, managing to both overreact and underreact at the same time. It was a sad moment for journalism, on top of Ms. Bubala’s phrasing, and a missed opportunity to further a crucial conversation."

anchor persons are held to a very high expectation
regarding not tripping over their tongues or shoving
their feet into their mouths------I consider FIRING her over
a MIS-SPEAK ---sorta over the top----broadcast clarification
should have been enough

Keeping up with things back in Ohio a few years ago, I came across this one. Here in Arizona I shared it with an African-American friend in the office who played it over-and-over laughing her ass off. Anchorwoman was suspended for a week or so which seemed reasonable to me.

Baltimore TV station WJZ has fired anchorwoman Mary Bubala for asking a question perceived to carry racial overtones and gender bias.

“We’ve had three female, African-American mayors in a row,” Bubala said. “They were all passionate public servants. Two resigned, though. Is this a signal that a different kind of leadership is needed to move Baltimore City forward?”

Baltimore TV Anchor Fired For Allegedly Biased Question Regarding Past Mayors – Deadline

Baltimore is in the top 3 as one of the most dangerous cities in America. It's past 3 mayors all left office in disgrace while the city deteriorates. Although Mary Bubala says she made a mistake in language and gave a sincere apology, it was still a valid question given the circumstances in Baltimore. Bubula worked 22 years at the Baltimore station while winning awards.

Clearly it's not a reporters job to ask tough questions these days.
If she had asked if Trumps whiteness gave him privledge then she would have gotten a raise. Cowering from Black reality was the rage during Barry’s run but it’s now time to face and to deal with the facts.

Aside from being #3 on the most dangerous US cities list, Baltimore ranks #10 of the cities with the worst drug problems. 21.9% of it's 600,000 citizens are living in poverty. 63.7% of Baltimore is black. The last 3 mayors were African-American women. Two of those mayors resigned amid scandals. One of those mayors allowed citizens to riot and loot. Any sane person would question leadership and the necessity for a change.

There are many people chiming in on Baltimore social media stating they are black and there was nothing wrong with what she said. Until those pissed off by her statement face the truth Baltimore will continue to deteriorate. And again, she wasn't even trying to make a statement. She just got two thoughts mixed up and that's how it came out. It's an honest gaff and one she apologized sincerely for. But her bosses at WJZ are a bunch of cowards. So political correctness and complete intolerance is allowed to run rampant and take someone's livelihood.
