But after WWI the defeated Ottoman Empire was divided by the European victors and arbitrary borders were drawn up to in order to create colonial ruled nation states.

Unfortunately, the division didn't take into consideration ethnic, religious, or cultural differences between the people living there.

Unity between the PA and Hamas is breaking over money, hamas wants more to pay their administration in gaza and to pay for fuel and supplies from Israel. It is not about the number of trucks being allowed in, it is about hamas not being able to pay for the goods they need imported.
