Real unemployment today is not 5.8 percent, it is 11.5 percent if we include those who have given up looking for work or who are working part time when they want to work full time.

I've never understood how calling people who have jobs "unemployed" or calling people who are not trying to work "unemployed" made any sense, let alone was "real unemployment."


Youth unemployment is 18.6 percent and African-American youth unemployment is 32.6 percent.
And yet those aren't the "real rates" as had just been defined.

I can't comment on the inflation-adjusted income claims because there are multiple measures. the quote itself references both wages and family income...which are completely different things. And then there's household income and multiple surveys measuring that.​
