Throughout high school and college, I was notorious for running out of gas and getting stranded.

I didn't get my driver's license until I was 25 (almost apropos of nothing.)

almost apropos of nothing, I taught my first wife how to drive a car when she was nearly 30 years old... 'bout a dozen or so years after her father, a twice-wounded battle-hardened WWII artillery officer, had thrown up his hands in frustration... and given up on his and anybody else's ability to ever teach her how to drive a car...

My mom was PISSED when I gave credit to my best friend after my mom gave up (teaching me how to drive a stick).

Such is life. She did give up. /shrug

I hadda buy a fuckin' Chevette with a goddamned automatic transmission simply for the purpose of teaching my first wife how to drive... I knew there was no fuckin' way I could teach her how to drive with a stick shift...
