The magic negro phenomenon. Liberal whites and media Jews love worshipping black men.

Other examples:
Pele
Tiger Woods
Michael Vick
Barack Obama
Henry Aaron

All these guys accomplishments are so grossly exaggerated it is mind-boggling.

So I take it you will be voting for Obama in November!

No, Jimi Hendrix isn't overrated because he's dead. He's considered the best guitarist because guitarists all over the world acknowledge him as such. He did things that nobody understood with a guitar, and things which couldn't be replicated (and still haven't). And his blues were out of this world...but like all his music, there was a little twist to them which might put purists off. But it wasn't because he couldn't play blues, it's because the way it was processed through him and his guitar just made it different.

Allman and Stevie were good musicians, maybe even great. But the can't touch Hendrix for innovation, technique and style. And just pure creativity.

I disagree. He was no better than the rest, and as a person he was a freakin' loser.

He was just a kid. He didn't do anything bad as far as I know.

And he was a great guitarist, according to guitarists.

When Stevie Ray died in 1990 he'd already been on the scene 15 years or more and was very highly rated. I don't think his death added to that - he'd already established the reputation.

Plus, he'd play circles around Duane Allman any day.

Ummm ... not. All of SRV's songs sound the same. Trust me ... I live here and they play the shit all the time like he's God. Every bar band in South Texas can cover a SRV song and sound just like him.

I prefer Duane Allman, and I prefer his style of music. At least it has some versatility, and I doubt seriously SRV could play with, much less circles around, Duane.

Of the 3, I rate SRV last. Hendrix too had some versatility.

I'll put it this way....

I named my freaking dog 'Yngwie'

Yngwie was a pompous ass, and still pretty much is.... he is famous for his scaling on his supposed heavy metal songs... but his infusion of true classical music into the electric world, coupled with his speed and technique put him as tops on my list as far as talented guitar playing

I still love the MYTH that "some of Jimi's sounds have never been replicated"... utter hogwash....

Surprising that there has been no mention or love of greats such as
Billy Gibbons (Who Hendrix thought was the best, no less)
Jeff Beck
Mark Knopfler
Nuno Bettencourt
Brian May
and John Petrucci

Have you heard his Concerto for Electric Guitar? Recorded with the Prague Symphony Orchestra or something like that. Quite good.

Yeah, this gets batted around but isn't actually true.

Man, I can't believe nobody mentioned these guys:

for those who don't know Steve Gaines who died in the Skynyrd plane crash...the first 3 minutes are rediculous...and nobody ever mentions him because his career was so short lived i guess
