It depends on the state laws concerning elections. If it is in September....likely nothing changes. He stays on the ballot considering the nominating convention was before then. Certainly the paperwork would be filed in each state before that. If it were to happen before he is nominated and accepts; all bets are off. The states whose primaries he has won will have to weigh the options. If he were to pass away, the matter becomes more vivid; you likely will not have a dead person as your nominee if you can help it.

I'm not sure what the DNC charter says about a candidate who passes away before the general election. It would be interesting reading and a compare/contrast with what the GOP has on hand. Remarkably, the Vice President wouldn't automatically become the GOP nominee. He would be President and any political party would love to have a sitting president as their nominee so it would be a mere formality but its not a done deal.

I agree that our new VP, whenever she does take power, will be much more vigorous in implementing "liberal" policies than was the last Democratic president, especially if the lady has a Dem House and Senate. Together they will definitely remake the United States of America. A dream come true for some Americans; a nightmare for many others.

I doubt it will make a difference one way or another. We'll get the party partisans that won't be swayed one way or another. The next major group will more likely be voting against one of the candidates.
