Reid won't negotiate while gov't partly closed

WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says Democrats will not negotiate with Republican lawmakers as long as the government is still partially closed.

the Republicans had no business "Shutting Down" the gov't in the first place ... the debt limit should have been all they needed, hopefully Reid will "Shut Down the Republicans".

So the GOP agreed to Obama's demand and now Reid has upped the ante? No, Reid owns this shutdown. The GOP should declare there is no one to negotiate with and just adjourn and go home.

Fair enough, in your eyes, I guess. However, any idiot (which most assuredly includes the communist here) who get their marching orders from Matthews or Madow or Maher or Stewart can never be taken seriously.

Useful idiot.

You wouldn't recognize communism if it walked up and collectively slapped you across your stupid face. I've lived/worked in two socialist countries in the last 20 years, I know the difference and have had to work with the aforementioned respective governments for moving employees in and out of country.

Trust me, this is a plutocracy, not communism.

But the Koch brothers and Jim Demint thank you for your naivete. Oh, yeah...and Ted Cruz does too.

Naw, you're probably right....I know nothing about communism. I lived in Moscow for 5 years. Lived in the Czech Republic for 3 years. Lived in Gdansk for 4 years. Lived in East Germany for 6 years.

You are well travelled....AND stupid. Unusual combination.

I've been called stupid by better people than you and, I have traveled outside my folks' basement - unlike you.

Do you understand that nobody believes this shit people like you spout on a message board? Who are you trying to impress, old man?

Oh look...the little do-gooder is back with yet another cheap insult.

The tea Party which has been steering the republican party for the last few years fail to understand just who is paying the bills at the Republican headquarters. Those people are the businesses of America, and they are pissed:

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/10/10/us/business-groups-see-loss-of-sway-over-house-gop.html?_r=0

They want their party back, and they are going to take it back. They are even prepared to start financing primary challanges to tea party folks.

When money talks, the tea party walks. It is all but over, folks. When the party starts to have to make a choice between General Electric and Michelle Bachmann.... well, you get the drift.

The republican party is undergoing massive changes - not unlike the democrat party (whose leadership now embraces communism).

True that.

Flagg needs to put down the crack pipe; that's for damn sure. What is it; like 500th post talking about communism? I understand he's senile but shit...collect some of your loose marbles before you make an ass out of yourself; AGAIN.

If anything, the Democratic Party has moved to the right even as the Republican Party has lurched several times to the right.

In fact, the Democratic Party today looks a lot like the former governing coalition of the post war year from the mid 1940s to the mid 1970 which was represented by both the mainstream of both the Democratic and Republican Parties. The GOP today is the ideological outlier.

I would personally disagree with this. Newly elected democrats are generally those of the more liberal leaning variety. Al Frankin? Elizabeth Warren? both very liberal. Obama is also much more liberal leaning then Clinton ever was.

Also in the House, due to Gerrymandering of districts, left leaning representatives do much better in elections in the hardcore left urban districts that vote 70%+ democrat.

The only new moderates being elected into the party are those found in traditionally red states like Montana, NC, or ND (Or Jim Matheson from Utah...). Even those areas can produce liberal congressmen here and there...take Claire Mccaskill.

I don't think we've moved too far to the right. Obama is a Centrist like Clinton. Hillary is pretty Liberal as are Democratic senators. My senator Sherrod Brown is Liberal, I don't know, I like senators that way but I like presidents to be Centrist. They need to be there for all the people.

Hope we can get rid of this wingnut governor Kasige. That guy is an ass.

Boehner(R) made a wise decision to untie his cart from the tea party mule at least temporarily. He might be up to something though.

Boehner: "to move half way on what he has demanded..."

No, you didn't move half way. And negotiate when you're supposed to, like when you have legislation.

The other half way he was speaking of was the debt ceiling. So because you didn't take it to to the level of an entire financial meltdown you're oh so merciful.

...........

OK, let's see if the Dems will talk.

Sure, the Dems will talk. But what is the GOP going to bargain with now? If the President chooses to tell them to get lost, what are they going to do? Shut down the government? Let the government go into default? If they try that tactic, Wall Street will defund the GOP.

Essentially, the GOP's only bargaining chip now is to "give us something to prevent to total loss of face". And the President owes them nothing at all.

The question the #RWNJs can't answer:

Since the whole reason for the shutdown - defunding ObamaCare - has been totally abandoned by the House, why is it still shut down?

Because the bills the House passed to fund the government are still in Harry Reid's in basket marked DOA.
Why isn't one of them a clean CR to re-open the government?

The dance is not over yet. Now that the Republican business interests are starting to join the fracus (against the Tea party) I suspect that Obama is going to require Boehner to crawl to the White House over broken glass and ask for mercy.
