Oh, the UK had a lower crime rate than America? I'm sure that's quite the accomplishme- oh wait. The UK is just a little smaller than California and they have more than double their police force. Gee, wonder why the crime rate is lower.

After tying the couple up, the gang demanded money, backed up by death threats to them and their relatives.

They poured a number of kettles of boiling water over their heads until – having extorted an unspecified amount of cash – they fled.

Twenty minutes later their victims managed to untie themselves and alerted a neighbour who called police.

Last night they were receiving treatment in separate burns units as police launched a nationwide manhunt for their attackers.

Speaking outside the victims’ home, the husband’s 68-year-old brother said the attack was shocking.

If this couple had had a gun.......they would not have been burned with boiling water and had their grandchildren threatened......and even if the criminals had used guns....the old people would have been on an equal footing....and could have fought back...as our stories of gun self defense in this country show.....

Ah....you don't do research do you.......they have more home robberies than we do ......because robbers in the United States have to worry about getting shot...regardless of wether or not they have guns.American criminals break into empty homes........so they don't get shot........in Britain...they just walk into homes and take what they want...and apparently use hot items to get the goods........

Elderly homeowner foils attempted break in, shoots, kills would-be intruder in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO — A man in his late 70s who shot and killed a would-be intruder Thursday morning on the Northwest Side is not expected to face charges at this time, police said.

Authorities arrived at the 9700 block of Autumn Dew around 10 a.m. after the homeowner and his wife, who is in her late 60s, called police to report that a man was attempting to break into their home.

SAPD spokesperson Douglas Greene said the elderly man pleaded with the attempted intruder to stop his efforts to get into the couple's home, but the man continued to force his way into the home, eventually breaking the door handle.

That's when Greene said the homeowner fired his revolver at the door, striking the man, who is in his 40s, in the chest.
