I'm not sure RT is the best source.

The New York Times says the Pentagon was privy to the test:

In Washington, the Pentagon said in a statement that it had provided technical assistance and support to the Israelis for the Sparrow test launch. The statement said the test had nothing to do with American preparations for possible military action against Syria.

"The test was long planned to help the Arrow Ballistic Missile Defense system’s ability to detect, track and communicate information about a simulated threat to Israel,” the [Pentagon] statement said.

Simply, in order to get a well rounded perspective, it is smart to consider how others perceive us.
Sounds like 'smart' is not in your vocabulary.

Here is the statement direct from the DoD website:

Pentagon Spokesman: Israeli Missile Test Help Was Long Planned

American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, Sept. 3, 2013 – Technical assistance and support from the Defense Department for an Israeli missile test over the Mediterranean Sea this morning was unrelated to U.S. consideration of military action in Syria, Pentagon Press Secretary George Little said.

“Early this morning, the United States Department of Defense provided technical assistance and support to the Israeli Missile Defense Organization flight test of a Sparrow target missile over the Mediterranean Sea,” Little said in a statement. “The test was long planned to help evaluate the Arrow Ballistic Missile Defense system's ability to detect, track, and communicate information about a simulated threat to Israel.”

The United States and Israel cooperate on a number of long-term ballistic missile defense development projects to address common challenges in the region, the press secretary said. “This test had nothing to do with United States consideration of military action to respond to Syria's chemical weapons attack,” he added.

I believe that he is a Zionist. So he is really looking forward to having our boys take bullets for the Israelites.

He also wants to see us pay $10 for a gallon of gas.

This kind of thing is not inconsequential given the timing. Look at all the anxiety N. Korea stirs up with its missile launches. Israel was doing all it could to instill whatever fear it could IMO, or seeking to obfuscate any more real strikes on strategic positions it plans in the future.

It's called a probe, no matter what the USA or Israel says. It makes the Russian's turn on their stuff and when they turn on their stuff they give away information on what kind of stuff they have and where it is. Also they have to change certain codes for their stuff because if we know the codes to some of their stuff, their stuff becomes weakened because we can break those codes. As they change the codes we learn how long it takes to change the codes on some of their stuff and that determines our window of oppurtunity for the best attack.

I believe this was at least part of the rationale for a test launch.

It could also be that the Administration was attempting to spook Assad into attacking American warships.

We know Obama would love an excuse to complete his stated agenda.

He knows Congress is likely to shoot down his plan.

By allowing Israel to fire a test missile, the U.S. has ironclad deniability of an attack, but allows the U.S. an opportunity to respond if Syria launches a premature strike to "counterattack" a test missile from a third party.

I'd love to see the tract and trajectory of the Sparrow.

I am not so optimistic.

Their plan is to draw Iran and Lebanon into the fray . They hope Russia will not get involved otherwise we have WWIII.

Even if only Iran gets involved things will get very messy and bloody.
