Capitalism would reduce health care costs to 20% of current levels but....

because liberals are unable to understand capitalism it won't happen.

Why don't you explain anyway, might be interesting. Also, a liberal economist or two passing by might give you a run for your money. Any, welcome back Edward.

explain?? Well, China just switched to capitalism from socialism and just eliminated 40% of world poverty. The lesson our liberals learned is that we ought to switch to socialism. A liberal has no ability to understand the basics. I see no other explanation. Do you?

well if you look at East/West Germany you see that eveything was cheap in West Germany and so expensive in East Germany that they lived at 20% the West German standard of living.
And, the standard of living they had in East Germany was higher than it would have been without western inventions to copy.

Isn't odd that our liberals want to copy the East German model?

The government has fucked up our health care system so badly to the point that I think either a collapse of the system or an attempt by the government to commandeer it completely is inevitable. The solutions that need to to happen in order to bring down the excess cost won't be palatable to most Americans because they don't have a really good grasp of economics and how markets work. It's a failure of our education system.

If China switched to capitalism, does this mean it's not a dictatorship anymore?

West Germany is amazing. And they still do well in spite of heavy union participation in their work force, and socialized health insurance.

China is the example he uses?

Good grief!
The Right worships China and would like to have Americans work like the Chinese.

Right. As soon as you can show we paid less for health care than any of the 35 developed nations in 2008 I will be interested in private health care. Want to show me a impartial source showing that we had lower costs than ANY. How many nations paid less of their gdp for health care than the US???? Last time I saw the list, just one country, which was some small war torn nation in africa, paid any more. And, just by a very small fraction.
Any one have a study saying we have the best health care in the world? Last study I saw said we were middle of the pack of major nations.

Lets see, highest cost by about double, and average outcomes. Looks like that private capitalist health care is a great deal, if you like being screwed.

How much is good health care worth to you? $8,233 per year? That’s how much the U.S. spends per person.

Worth it?

That figure is more than two-and-a-half times more than most developed nations in the world, including relatively rich European countries like France, Sweden and the United Kingdom. On a more global scale, it means U.S. health care costs now eat up 17.6 percent of GDP.

While millions have been spent by the HC industry in trying to get people to believe we have the best and most cost effective system, it is NONSENSE. No independent study of the subject says anything close to the HC industry propoganda. And if you believe our system has been inexpensive, you simply have proven you do not care to believe the truth.

How the fuck did you derive all that from anything I said? I swear, it's like some of you arrive here on the short bus.

I derived that you think the gov has screwed up our health care system. And that it will stay that way because the populace does not understand economic principles. How did I derive that? You said it.
The points I was making were that the system was not screwed up by the gov, but by private companies. Mostly insurance companies.
The gov had little to do with our health care system, and still does not, though it now has more power to require certain things. Whether the new obamacare system is better than the old privately controlled system is yet to be determined. But I am really unable to believe it could be much worse than it was before.

If you look at areas of medicine that are not subject to insurance, like Lasix and breast augmentation, you find that costs have declined since people pay for these things out of their own pockets. That should be the model for the rest of medicine.

Conservatives don't have a real clue about what capitalism is versus what they push for...Myths and fairy tales is ALL libertarians have!

actually they are switching to capitalism in China and it has eliminated 40% of the poverty on earth. Do you understand? What exactly are you confused about?

Makes perfect sense to me. Model your health care on Lasix and breast augmentation. Pay no attention to the rest of the world where costs are less than ours.
Or, do not consider the cost of those procedures in the rest of the world compared to the US cost. Look over here, not over there. Nothing to see there. Believe the health care providers, not the studies. Do like rabbi. Listen to the hc industry, and shut out all that other information.
Perfect. I wonder why we pay over twice what other countries pay for health insurance on average.

In our wonderful world of HC, I went to a clinic to treat a stomach ailment in Dec of last year (Dec 21, 2013). Turned out it was not a stomach ailment. It was a heart attack. Stuck me in an ambulance, and found out the solution was bypass surgery. Took 8 hours of surgery, and I had a nice new set of arteries for my heart (from my arm and legs). Triple bypass. And a bill for over a half million $, happily covered entirely by medicare. Per the Rabbi, would have been best if I paid it out of pocket.
Think about it. How would you, or millions of others deal with a shiny new bill for over a half million bucks. Ever wonder why it is that medical expenses is the number one cause of bankruptcy in this country? Only in the USA.

yes a liberal will be unable to understand that if people shop carefully with their own money and suppliers compete on the basis of price and quality price will come down 80%. It seems simple but for liberals this is just too complicated.

I wonder why we pay over twice what other countries pay for health insurance on average.

two reasons:

1) with more capitalism than other countries we can afford to pay more

2) with more socialism in our health care thanks to many piecemeal programs and agencies both federal and state we have a spaghetti mess of more socialism in health care than other countries.

Of course if socialism worked America would not be the richest country on earth and China would not be switching away from it and instantly eliminating 40% of world poverty. It pays to think about these issues before you post.

The absolute insanity of liberals causes them to look at China and say, lets switch to socialism. How can America survive with pure ignorance being the dominant political force?
