So, walking to the bus stop on my way to work today,
cars were traveling East on 59th, decorated with streamers, signs and balloons
horns beeping nonstop, people hanging out the windows, standing up through the sun roofs
They miss Peck School
All hispanics no one wearing masks
I get to Pulaski and on all 4 corners, groups of adults and kids
holding signs, balloons, noise makers stood on each corner cheering the procession
No masks, not a one
Gatherings are banned but who cares
All hispanics
I live on the Southwest Side of Chicago in West Lawn
The 3rd highest Covid cases in the entire city
Here in Chicago Latinos account for the majority of all cases at 37%
and the numbers are rising
And Chicago Latino politicians blame....

There have been gatherings and bar b que's in my neighbors yard on both sides of my building
for the past 2 weekends and the one spilled out into the alley and in front of our garage
Parties further down the block and across the alley
Shit, there's been a hispanic man and woman selling fruit out of the back of their truck
on the East corner of my block the past 3 Saturday's
While talking with the neighbor next door last week and I said this was all bullshit, he said....
No, it's for real...my cousin on xx is real sick, so and so over on xx is on a ventilator
another relative on xx is self quarantining....
I'm like, what, have they gone to the hospital (other than the guy on a ventilator)
No...the hospital is weird he said
I'm like, weird...what
They're here illegally and afraid to go
I told him...but they can't trace down people they've been in contact with
That's fucked up on so many levels
