Cash for Clunkers didn't work

Evidence shows that the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) more widely known as the Obama stimulus worked. An analysis from the White House's Council of Economic Advisers found that the stimulus saved or created about 1.6 million jobs a year for four years, through the end of 2012. The ARRA also raised the level of real economic activity by between 2 and 3 percent from late 2009 through mid-2011. And the extra government debt added by the stimulus may have been entirely offset by new economic activity.
This should be in the Humor section.

Why?

The Stimulus worked better than expected, but it wasn't a magic bullet and was a lot smaller than it should have been.

Some of the programs, like "cash for clunkers" worked less well than expected.

That's what you do when you try something.

You roll out the plan and check the results. Keep what works and toss what doesn't.

sure as hell forgot to do that in my State.....and they went overboard on some programs...

No shit Sherlock. The stimulus didn't work either by the way.

Do you have any evidence?

Nothing but old warehouses and abandoned buildings existed in these photographs a few years ago. What you don't see is a new light rail and subway system which exists from the San Mateo County Line to downtown SF, and soon to be completed to China Town, North Beach and end at Fisherman's Warf.

The Construction you see includes is high tech, and an expansion of the U. of California at San Francisco (Medical, Dental and research); see:

Mission Bay News - San Francisco Business Times

Much of this construction, the new Eastern Span of the Bay Bridge, the light rail/subway and infrastructure received funding from the act the right regularly considers a boondoggle.

Maybe Rocko has some evidence to support his opinion - likely not.

Wry you are talking about a wealthy area.....its the same way here in OC....construction going on all over the place....but there are 31 Counties over 8% UE and 13 of them over 10%....Imperial County is at 22%.....are the poorer Counties part of the State too?....or do all the good things happen were the wealthy are?......all this tells me is Democrats are no different than Republicans.....the money goes were the rich reside....

right now California is 7.5%.....

The middle class income dropped 7% since Hussein was elected. The Cash for Clunkers program will be a symbol in future generations of what you get when you elect a dumb assed community agitator.

The middle class won't recover from Reaganism and the Boooosh World Depression until Voodoo tax rates are changed, the megarich and giant corps pay their fair share and the non rich's taxes are cut (ALL taxes, dumbass dupes), and the nonrich's wages go up...see min. wage and the resultant rise across the board, with DEMAND. See California under Brown.

Of course the stimuli worked, shyttehead dupes. Only cost 4-5 TRILLION to avert a true depression...

The leftists crow about how Obama saved the economy. But they're the ones getting screwed while the wealthy have gotten all the gains. The middle class was better off under Bush, even on his worst day. Libs are bad at math. Libs are stupid.

Another example of a wasteful federal program. Since when did the Constitution say Uncle Sam was supposed to get in the used car business?

Well you guys didn't want the government getting involved with new car companies either. Had you had your way, we would only have one American car manufacturer left today. The loss of GM and Chrysler would have been devastating to the overall economy.

and they crushed all the clunkers which put a hurt on people like me who buy used cars and it nearly destroyed the used car dealers....and here is my question what became of the repo cars......you know when it all went south a lot of those cars went back to the dealer

and they crushed all the clunkers which put a hurt on people like me who buy used cars and it nearly destroyed the used car dealers.

yes it also hurt the poor by ruining the used parts availability

it was the "rule" that the engines and such if good had to

be destroyed before it could be claimed for cash for clunkers

it was one of the worst ideas ever

Bullshit. It would have been devastating to the auto workers' union, which was the point. Allowing them to go bankrupt would have been the best thing for the economy, as it would have freed up resources for efficient enterprises.
