Chauvin’s lawyer seeks new trial, hearing to impeach verdict

Unless he lied during jury selection none of that (if true) matters

The Defense CHOSE this juror and had adequate time to question him.

He did lie. From what I understand all jurors had to fill out a form. On the form it was asked if they were a Floyd activist, and he answered "no" to that question. I'm sure most of the jurors lied about having their minds made up already.

Wouldn't be a good defense attorney if he didn't try, but I don't see anything happening.
Chauvin’s lawyer seeks new trial, hearing to impeach verdict

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The defense attorney for the former Minneapolis police officer convicted of killing George Floyd has requested a new trial, saying the court abused its discretion, and he wants a hearing to have the verdict impeached because of what he says is jury misconduct, according to a court document filed Tuesday.

Brandt said Nelson will likely file more detailed written arguments on these issues. The purpose of holding a hearing to impeach the verdict would be to develop a factual record and present evidence that could determine whether the verdict was compromised. If a hearing is granted, it’s likely Mitchell would be called in to answer questions, Brandt said.

If he was a defense juror, the case is pretty much closed about using him as grounds for asking for a retrial.

Not at all. No one is a defense juror or a prosecution juror. Picking a juror involves a process known as voir dire. Both sides get to question potential jurors as to bias. Jurors are sworn to tell the truth. This Juror lied and said he was not a George Floyd activist when he demonstrably was. Had he told the truth he would not have been on that jury.

Not only is the case not closed as to getting a new trial but Chauvin is almost certainly going to get a new trial whether through this motion or by the appellate court vacating the verdict.

Good luck to him.

He's been made a sacrificial lamb. Don't care what anyone says.

It's not even an issue of right-wing vs left-wing or Democrat vs Republican - the future of American justice hinges on it.

I keep saying that I watched the closing of the trial and the judge/prosecutions to the jury, I've never seen anything so corrupt in my life in regards to what they could and could not take into account. They were basically told to discount everything and return a guilty verdict and that's before getting started on the external factors like senators and your own president, Biden, saying he hope's he's found guilty.

The USA at the moment is a banana republic.

Quoted for truth. He was found 'guilty' before they even picked a jury; the charges were entirely phony.
Right, because a white man can kill a black man if he is wearing a police uniform.

I'm afraid it is right vs left. The right in our country fully support our police and the left totally hate our police.

All except the Capitol police that were attacked by Trump Humpers.

The left always sides with evil and the right always sides with the good in any controversial situation.

If that were true we wouldn't have had all the atrocities that we have in this country.

So what's the ratio now, 100 to 1? And you think that's a good record?
If that were true we wouldn't have had all the atrocities that we have in this country.

It is true. For crying out loud, your leaders just named a law after a drug addict career criminal.

The only atrocities we have in this country are liberals.

This lies at the feet of Maxine Waters and other domestic terrorists who participated in jury intimidation and violence.

Mitchell told the Star Tribune that last summer's protest was '100 per cent not' a march for Floyd.

'It was directly related to MLK's March on Washington from the '60s ... The date of the March on Washington is the date ... It was literally called the anniversary of the March on Washington,' he said.

He was asked about BLM and Floyd.

He did not lie

It shows that even the generic link blows your premise out of the water. Brandon Mitchell perjured himself filling out the questionnaire thus tainting the jury. Even the cursory investigation has shown that Mitchell was biased form the start. Surely, the jury pool was tainted and a deeper investigation may find more jurors that lied to be on the jury.

Hey dumbass...the generic link shows nothing and the other link showed your claim to be bogus.

The juror didn't lie.

wasn't he wearing a Floyd shirt though? "I can't breathe" I believe.

Sort of runs a little counter to his claim

Well he is lying in that very comment. The protest took place on the 57th Anny of MLK speech....but the protest was called the "Get Your Knees Off Our Necks" Protest, and was directly related to George's death...it was announced by Big Al during George's funeral

"Dubbed “Get Your Knee Off Our Necks,” the 2020 March on Washington is expected to draw 50,000 protesters from around the country. It was announced by Rev. Al Sharpton during the June funeral of George Floyd, a Black man who died after a white officer kneeled on his neck for longer than eight minutes."
