President Donald Trump has come under heat from all sides of the political spectrum for ripping immigrant children apart from their families. Most of the children are being detained in prison-like facilities.

President Trump tweeted that it was necessary to separate children from their families because of the increasing crime rate at the border and blamed Democrats for the problem.

“It is the Democrats fault for being weak and ineffective with Boarder Security and Crime. Tell them to start thinking about the people devastated by Crime coming from illegal immigration. Change the laws!” he tweeted.

“I think the administration is motivated by Trump’s skills of negotiating. What was done, was done intentionally by the Trump administration....

their new zero tolerance policy, and not manning the gates of entry with more border security, has caused this and there is no way around it....

They changed the rules initially when Sessions took off gang violence that they have been in fear of being brutalized by, off of the list for being a reason to seek asylum that the USA would accept.

these people that made the 6 month walking trip from HOnduras, Guatamala, and ElSavador to our border were never told of these changes.

In addition to this, the administration chose to arrest everyone, those who will qualify for refugee status and those that may not qualify.... it used to be they were released until their immigration hearing for refugee status....

so, because the administration did not staff the custom entry points for the prosecution of everyone who crosses the border, the zero tolerance (zero compassion) program and change in the reasons you can seek asylum, has caused a 9 day wait, to cross the border once they get to the gate, sitting in 100 degree heat....

some of these asylum seekers, especially those with babies and young children, are forced to cross the border outside of the gate but real near by, and sitting under shaded trees until border control comes and gets them.

All of those people are being prosecuted.... even those with legitimate reasons to seek asylum.

So, the administration, KNOWING that their 9 day delay to cross through the entry points to enter the country, would force many of them to cross the border right outside of the gate and turn themselves in to border control, and not a thought to preparing for thousands of mothers and their children now being separated because they CHOSE to prosecute them, instead of process them, we have this chaotic and inhumane situation.

As the head of the executive branch who controls this process, including how staff operates and how many in the staff,

the President and the president alone, can fix what is going on.

Again, the arrest and incarceration isn't problematic for me.

What is problematic is that we're keeping family members from seeing their mother and father as a matter of policy; sometimes for months at a time. One lady from Brazil didn't see her kid for over 80 days. That shouldn't happen. The most violent offenders in our judicial system get visitation.

The federal government ignores it's own laws quite often but somehow, in this case, it is saying there is a law in place that "forces" such separation.

Please name for us some of the other laws the federal government under Trump is ignoring. Make sure they're really laws, not just your own insane imaginings of what the law is, or should be.

The law was put in place in 2008, before Obama as President is my understanding, for child trafficking, and primarily men that cross the border with children, that are clearly not their children.... it was not put in place to separate young mothers with young children seeking refugee status...they were released during their waiting period for refugee status hearings.

In early May, U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that the government planned to ramp up the prosecutions of those making illegal border crossings — even in cases of those who do so in order to seek asylum.

A key component of what has been dubbed the “zero tolerance” policy includes the practice of separating children of migrants from their parents, and detaining them separately. This week, MSNBC’s Jacob Soboroff visited one such detention facility in a repurposed WalMart in Brownsville, Texas. There, nearly 1,500 boys between the ages of 10 and 17 are housed five-to-a-room, awaiting word of when they might be reunited with their families.
