Now, are these not choices?
How is it that one can claim victim status for the conscious choices they make?

Well, she did say her obligations and activities were self imposed.
She imposed upon herself to make a "family" Christmas. So stop.

Don't decorate the tree this year. Invite two dozen friends over, haul out the booze and crackers, set the ornaments under the tree and have a decorating party. That's what single people do.
